After the joke first innings yesterday !!!

Jack Leach goes in as nightwatchman and hits a maiden International 50

Highest England nightwatchman score Alex Tudor 99 no, world record Jason Gillespie 201 no (Yes as nightwatchman)

With Leach 50 he has become the fourth highest score by an opener since Cook retired

:Stunned:

Now the third highest score by an England opener since Cook retired.

161-1 in the 2nd innings. We'll build a healthy second innings lead, declare and bowl them out for <150. Never in doubt.

After the world cup final and this test questions have to be asked about the groundsman at lords. The pitch preparation has been poor

There was nothing wrong with pitch in either game.
Poor shot selection and lack of technique are to blame.

I haven't watched any of the test so will not argue that but the pitch in the world cup final was very hard work and the batsmen really struggled. For a match that is the pinnacle of cricket that was poor IMO and I've heard it said by a lot of people that had the game not been so close and provided such drama the pitch would have come under scrutiny.

Pitch was fine, nothing wrong with it IMHO. All about shot selection, or lack of it in most cases.

But it was amazing and that in a big way was down to the pitch.
In any case, the ICC make the decision on the wicket for the World Cup, not individual groundsmen.
Would you have preferred a flat length of concrete that England could have scored 400 on and walk the match?

No one would deny it was a great final, more down to how close it was. A pitch in a world Cup final should not be an "evener". I believe that a pitch that represented an even contest between bat and ball would have seen a convincing England win. The final was great but it was such a fine margin abd would we have felt the same if we hadn't won?

Joe Root has publically come out and criticised the pitch in the press conference after the test as well.
