Hampshire Hawks 155 for 6 off their 20 overs
Think there is some power there - and actually more than in recent years (other than when we had Delport and won it) but the trouble is Rossington isn’t firing. The likes of Pepper, Buttleman, Walter and Critchley can hit 6s but are a bit hit and miss. I would rather see an explosive overseas batsman than bowler - someone like McDermott even if he didn’t come off tonight. There's a real lack of power in the Essex batting which might explain Chelmsford being tougher to bat this year as a deliberate tactic. They got massively exposed at high-scoring Taunton where they hit only 3 sixes and got demolished.
Agreed that the usually strong South is weaker this year.
Think it’s about par for Chelmsford with its small boundaries.Decent score from us given Middlesex a fair bit of work to do
I went for a drink at about 8 overs in the pavilion and the side on view of the wicket is superb, you could see the ball was holding in the pitch and not coming onto the bat. At that point 180+ looked near enough impossible so when we got that score I thought they would struggle to chase it.Think it’s about par for Chelmsford with its small boundaries.
Sometimes but like Ricky Otto said you could see from tonight's game that 180 was a big ask to chase and Middlesex fell well shortThink it’s about par for Chelmsford with its small boundaries.
