Redbridge have no connection with Daggers and are miles away in terms of the standard they play in.
Seriously, to put out the team we did, AT HOME to Redbridge and LOSE 0-2 is truly woeful.
The players should have been made completely aware that the competition is for SENIOR teams. They had a golden opportunity to impress the watching manager.

Why don't professional clubs win the Essex Senior Cup on a regular basis?
You would imagine that it is an opportunity to test fringe/youth players against far weaker opponents.

To be honest most of the players from our Under-21s will get released at some point and will probably end up playing at Ryman League standard just like the countless youth rejects before them. That's just football, very few are good enough to make it.

I think some of the U21 team might be heading down the job centre come May if this is their standard. A professional player should be ripping into teams like Redbridge.

Have to agree although seems a waste to wait until May before ripping up contracts! - having seen the u21 a few times this season (yesterday and a few pre seasons) have to admit most have no chance of any future in the game. Redbridge are currently one of the worst non league clubs around conceding at least 3 a game but easily kept a clean sheet yesterday. The whole U21 seems pointless to me, these players need to be tested in the non-league scene, getting real games to test them to see if they have anything, if not just send them down the job centre and move on

I started this thread and genuinely wanted to go and watch but couldn't make it in the end. For me, the most disheartening thing reading all the comments is that this match was played on a day when PB announced he was looking at loan signings. That alone should have been the biggest incentive for some of these players to show they could potentially step into 1st XI in event of injuries to squad. That none of them appeared to show anything is depressing, especially in comparison to how positive the U18 team are doing this season. Having said all that, I still feel the U21 team is a good idea as it will give the 18-year-olds another 3 years to develop (as opposed to just being cast aside when they are to old for U18 but not good enough to go straight into 1st team). Maybe in 2/3 seasons, we will see an U21 team with 3/4 players with potential to make step up.

An absolute disgrace.

Let us not forget you need 11 on the pitch for a team, and some of these are making up the numbers.

The Redbridge boys will be back at work today, the U21s will have their feet up.

This is our first year of having an Under 21 squad, so I am not surprised that there are a number in there "making the numbers up" this season, we only used to promote 2 or 3 a season into the development squad and they rarely made it.
This season it has given us a longer look at Bridge and Williams and game time for Ted .
I expect a number of the current U21's to make way for the final year U18's at the end of the season and over the next few seasons (particularly if the academy in the new stadium plans kicks on ) the quality to improve.

As for Williams and Bridge in particular, it does rather seem a missed opportunity.

Strong team out - as per Chris Phillips - T. Smith, Jordan Williams, Adeyeye, Bridge, Matsuzaka, Kyprianou, Scott, Norman, Jason Williams, Gard, Cotton.
Subs Johnson, McCree, Dias, Matthews & Lewis Gard.

In what way is that a strong team?

if it puts it into any context, colchester u21 side beat Hornchurch 8-0 in the same competition. Hornchurch are 2nd in the division redbridge are 21st in...

This is the 3rd consecutive season that we have gone out of this competition in the 1st game that we play and each to a team from the Ryman league.
It is plainly not good enough, we should either not enter the competition if we are going to play a team of teenagers or the Essex FA should demand that we put out a stronger team or not accept our entry.
Last night was shameful and Messrs Brown and Robinson should apologise to those of us who wasted an evening.

agree with most of this, but does browny have an input into the teams played?

Is a fair point. Either do not enter or attempt to win it.
Redbridge have been so poor this season yet beat us 2-0 at The Hall. Seriously woeful.
