Essex vs. Durham

How the heck Collingwood can be allowed to play is beyond me, he was released from the England squad and can now turn up and play to the expense of another Durham player. I know this rule has been in place for a while, but what a dogs breakfast. If a match has started then they either have played with 10 men to accomodate him later or the 11 that started is the 11 that finishes.
Having not played in the first innings I too presumed Collingwood wouldn't play - I'd forgotten about the rule change.

Bloody ridiculous though.

Essex have bowled out Durham for 347 and have been set 297 to win, currently 12/0.

This bloke must have been interesting to watch!!

M Davies Runs 17 - Balls 118 - 4's 0 - 6's 0

250 runs to get with 9 wickets in hand. A pretty tall order if you ask me...

Apparently by yesterday afternoon the pitch was a completely different prospect to the one Essex bowled on on the first day.

According to my source, Essex had done very well to take as many as 6 wickets. I think a score of 300 should therefore be gettable on this pitch. Scores of 300+ are now much more routinely chased down than ever use to be the case.

My worry is that Essex have again picked too many bits and pieces cricketers and too few specialist batsmen. With Grant Flower not opening, we may be a batsman light. The two lefthanders currently at the crease are therefore vital, one of those will have to score a ton, something which is well within their grasp.

Good point HKB.

We could be a specialist batsman light but with respect to Kaneria & Plladino we do bat down to 9, all of whom have first class 100s to their names.

A top performance by Andy Flower - 132 not out. Big win for us, that was - it puts us in the top 3 (albeit the sides below us have games in hand).

Massive win (in significance, not the 4-run margin) against Middlesex in the Sunday League. To be honest, that one is pretty much in the bag, isn't it? All the sides below us have got to win all their games and rely on us losing 4 out of our remaining 6 games... surely that unlikely combo won't happen now, will it?

Terrific win in the championship game, I honestly did not think we would get that. Hats off to Andy Flower back to the top of the averages. We are probably still outsiders for promotion as Durham have better points, Lancs a game in hand and the Yorkies two. With Andre Nel coming in soon it can still be achieved.

Good win yesterday, Totesport is very near to being sewn up, what chances on remaining unbeaten.
