Some of us haven't. Can someone post a quick summary (with plenty of "allegedlys", "apparently's" etc

)

Thanks.

Otto was allegedly getting a little too familiar with Spud's daughter's bestfriend (other versions claim inaccurately that it was Spud's daughter or Jobson's daughter). Apparently her parents weren't too happy with their 15 year old daughter spending so much time with an ex-con nearly twice half her age and kicked up a fuss. Allegedly it was agreed it was best for all parties if the dreadlocked one moved on, and so Jobson or Adams (can't remember which) rang up Fry, who offered to dig us out of a hole and sign him for a Birmingham club record fee.

I think most of us had heard the rumours, fantastic player but £800,000 was too much IMHO. Still remember his superb goals at Derby and Barnsley in his 1st season - was the Barnsley one a fluke? Very difficult to decide either way but it looked the nuts!

Not Jobson's daughter who used to work in the club shop - surely!!!

Remember coming home from a Boxing Day game at Charlton just after Otto's departure to find that he'd scored twice for Brum on his debut - one at each end in a 1-1 draw!!

How I laughed that season when they were relegated

Cheers. Should have guessed!

Other Otto crackers included a turn and run from the half way line at Swindon (I think it may have been goal of the month) and a 30 yard thunder bolt in a 4-2 Boxing Day win over Charlton. Those were the days ...

Quote[/b] (shrimpereeee @ July 18 2005,13:25)]Oh and did you know RM actually offered him the manager's job when he sacked Newman only to be vetoed by the other directors who preferred Wignall!
He's not telling that quite how it went! Well at least he's not telling it how I was told how it went by one of the people involved in it!

I actually posted what happened on here well over a year ago.

When Newman was sacked, Taylor was interested in taking over, and we were interested in him taking over. He was approached and everything was agreed until he started getting second thoughts. He went away to think about it before coming back to us and saying that actually he'd changed his mind. The club then looked at other possibilites which ended up with Wignall, Thompson and that Scottish hard taskmaster that I've forgotten the name of! At exactly the same time the Directors chose Wignall, Taylor contacted the club and said he'd changed his mind again, and he wanted the job. By now though it was too late to turn back as Wignall had already been offered the job.

Just goes to show how wrong the board were, lets be honest wignall was a disgrace and an embarassment an absolute $%&* who had the nerve to sue us when he was sacked!!

He meant that Barnsley one allright, I remember seeing him glance at where the keeper was just before he hit it!

Also, another outstanding Otto on-pitch memory of mine was how he danced his way down the left wing @ Layer Rd and put in an inch-perfect cross for us to score (can't remember who got the final touch though) after about 6 seconds of a pre-season friendly in 93.

The sight of fatboy Paul Roberts berating the rest of his back-four was immense. Mug!

If people are willing to look beyond Wignall's past crimes, much in the way they were willing to look beyond Ricky Otto's misdemeanours, you will see that Wignall laid the foundations for the success we currently are enjoying.

Wignall cleared out a lot of deadwood and tried to turn the club's mentality around with signings like Fullarton, Stuart and Broughton. They may not have lasted, but I think their legacy has.

Whilst Wignall may have lacked the passion in the eyes, his team didn't actually lack that much as evidenced by Tilly's overnight success despite making very few changes. What we were missing was a bit of confidence and a bit of luck. Once we had a proper front pairing (Bramble and Corbett) things started to click, we beat Swansea in the LDV, Canvey in the FA Cup and then thrashed Lincoln and Rochdale and basically we haven't looked back since.

I for one am glad we got Wignall as manager, because I don't think Taylor had the ability to turn a football club round off the pitch like Wignall did.

Wonder where Otto is now? I heard a rumour he had got back in with the Yardies and was inside.
My abidding memory of him was him missing that sitter in Extra Time at the Anglo Italian Semi-Final game against Notts County. The game was well into Extra time and if he had scored we would have gone to Wembley but the idiot put the header over the bar.

Was talking to someone at Birmingham the other day and apparently he hosts one of their lounges every now and then.

Another Otto gem was a cracking volley v Luton at Kenilworth Road. I think it was a Hails corner, that bobbled out to Ricky who, stepping back, hit it right footed into the top corner.

The guy was/is a Southend legend for many reasons!

Good point. In my time posting three thousand times or whatever the hell I'm upt o now, I'd never seen that one.

Perhaps an article should be put on the front page...
