Breaking News Francis offer accepted

Because he is a money grabbing little mug that doesn't care about Southend. SCUM

So your telling me if you got a job offer where you were guaranteed a higher position, you would be paid and on time and it was a better move for your career you wouldn't take it because you are faithful to your company. Footballers are human you know, it is their job and they have to make a living so they are going to want the best of what they can get. Call it money grabbing but I call it looking after no one.

Good luck to him, no hard feelings at all. Gave his best and never gave up at all throughout a very turgid season. Do think he could have done better than Brentford though in all seriousness.

I really like Simon Francis as a player, so gutted to see our current best player go.
As for the transfer fee, IF it is 150K or near to, we could once again have got a fair bit more. Why is our Manager and Chairman so useless with transfer fee's? Selling our much wanted best players so cheaply and buying rubbish strikers so dearly.

Jesus H Christ. Grow up. It's a job for goodness sake not his reason for being.

Would you say the same about Stan Collymore or Freddy. Very few players stick with one club throughout their career - the life of a football player is painfully short and he has to do the best for him and his family until he hangs up his boots and moves into running a used car showroom just outside of Norwich.

There are certainly threads about Hooper sell-ons ..........but knackered from working in high temperatures yesterday and wilting at the thought of going down now to cut the lawn in sweltering heat, so.................. can't be bothered to search them out. Anyway , in addition to the money we shall get for Francis.............this could be even more interesting.

You bunch of pessimistic, negative *****! Another display of fickle football fans - There is hardly any loyalty in football these days. We absolutely can get over this and we will. Southend United carries on. If you feel that strongly about Ron and his handling of SUFC then organise a meeting with him and speak to him rather than continuously moan on a message board. Pluck up some courage to go and speak to him about your concerns. At the end of the day he has the club's best interests at heart. But, with extremely limited resources he cannot work miracles that some of you expect.

Life goes on.

Come on you blues!

On back of Echo today it is Brentford who have put in an offer for £150,000

Makes sense to me, he lives in London so that'll probably be where he'll go? Like others state, was ,at times, quite effective going forward but at the back he was most of the time found wanting. He also had problems finding a player in his shirt and gave away the ball twice against Col Ewe and 1 against Swindon which all resulterd in goals.
That said I still wish him well and thanks for his time at the Hall.

why do I get the feeling that we are going to come out with the usual ******** of 'did not manage to get the targets' crap and we will have a **** poor squad this season

I still can't get my head around Ron Martin saying a few weeks back that he would like a squad of 21 or 22 contract (not loans) players for Division 2 next season.
This is not going to happen for so many reasons and was just another one of those statements to quieten the disgruntled fans, and maybe sell a few season tickets with more false promises.

You are so right TSNB.
All the signs are that nothing has changed regarding our cash flow situation. The ST has announced yet another(final?)delay in the repayment of their 2009 loan to the Chairman. The reserve team has effectively been scrapped. And Francis's inevitable deparure will just open the floodgates for some of our better players to leave in the summer too.
What is the budget for new players and how on earth can we attract anyone of quality or ambition to the club given our highly publicised financial situation?

Now that IS a controversial statement if I've ever read one! Who exactly, from last seasons performances, would you term as our better players???

Francis.Macca.Barrett.Moussa and Middleton. Not necessarily in that order and not necessarily on last season's performances alone either.
Grant and Scannell would also be on the better players list but I think they'll still be around next season.

Didn't he say 18 or 19 players plus loanees? I don't see that as unrealistic. Once Francis and a couple of others have been shown the door we'll have around 10-12 players. I'd expect us to then make seven or eight signings on free transfers and supplement the rest with loanees.

Surely it's a good thing that some of the so-called "better players" (That should read better paid) are shipped off? If Francis moves on, we should be able to identify another right back and another midfielder adequate for League Two for that wage bracket. The same goes with Barrett, McCormack and Mildenhall... If they want to move on, and it allows us to restructure the club's extortionate wage bill, then so be it.

As for the squad limit situation, I was pretty certain RM said a squad of 21-22 including loanees, with a core base of around 18 seniors contracted to us.
