Garry Nelson interview

Nice one, Naps. I read the 'Left Foot In The Grave' book (about his time with Torquay) and it was a good read. Interested to see he's still playing for 'Old Southendians.' I remember his performances for us on the left wing - a bit lightweight, but nice skills and a hint of petulance in those days. He'd beefed out by the time he played CF for Brighton and one season (circa '87), I think he bagged about 30 goals.

Loved both Left Foot Forward and Left Foot In The Grave. Really insightful and about real football. Would reccomend Steve Claridge's Tales From The Boot Camp for the same reason.

Garry played in the same Sunday league side as his dad and my dad in the mid 70s despite being only about 14 at the time .. Ron Nelson and my old man worked at Eden Fisher the printers in Sutton Road for about 30 years, Ron never losing his Evertonian tongue despite all his years in the South .. he was a ref for absolute donkeys and i'm pretty certain my sides always got the benefit of any debateable decisions which was a touch
