TV Highlights Gateshead FC 1-1 Southend Utd

RHB

Return to Modnomor Mountain⭐⭐🦐
Highlights now available. No doubt the great Mooney debate will continue here as well. Seems to me though that it takes a complete team to concede a goal and everyone has a part to play. We got a point, time to move on.

Brooks had two chances but clearly not a striker. Kanu had a good opening too. Martin made some good stops and gratefully fielded the rebound off the inside of the post. Both Kanu and Cards were well positioned for the rebound leading to the goal. Great point.

I think it would be harsh to have a go at Mooney there. On another day his toe poke would have got passed the defender and to Kanu.

Also, if you're going to have a go at Mooney for that then Kensdale deserves the same for his misplaced pass that nearly led to a goal. The only thing different was the finish.

I absolutely screamed at him for that bit of sloppiness.

If you didn't know the home attendance, then watching that you would think they had at least 5k fans in that stand and not 900. Crowd effects microphone cranked up to full volume I think!

Always think our home microphones are muted quite a bit, especially the last game v Chesterfield, both home and away fans very muted in the TNT coverage.

There's a lot of scapegoating but in the last two away games, vs Alty and Gateshead, we have looked far too vulnerable as a team in transition. Most of Gateshead's opportunities on Saturday appeared to come from us losing the ball and them breaking quickly.

Miley's absence is undoubtedly a factor in this, but it's interesting to see the stick Mooney is getting when you consider that Kensdale's pass that was cut out and almost saw Dinanga score a second, has barely been mentioned. Was a far worse mistake than Mooney's IMO.

As a team, we have to look at this because at the moment, away from home, it seems a little too easy to carve us open.

Kensdales was worse - he was in control of the ball. Mooney was going for a 50:50 which by definition you're not going to come out with the ball frequently

Yes: back at Mooney, lol! And this after the goal, not the second of two failed tackles.
No no not the goal we conceded. When Kensdale brought the ball out of defence into the opposition half and then passed straight to one of their players, who then played a long ball putting one of their strikers through on goal forcing Martin to make a smart save. You can see it on around 2mins into the official Southend highlights on YouTube - or other threads on here

Might be a bit harsh this, but from the highlights I think Kanu was poor in a couple of situations.
His effort on 1:51 was weak when presented with a decent chance. Rushed and stretched.
The three on two chance on 2:29 was even worse, only salvaged by Wood creating a chance that hit the bar.
The pass he played stifled any pace we had in the attack, and was the wrong choice anyway. Cardwell on his left shoulder would have been the ball, but I guess Cardwell wasn’t asking for it…..

IF we are to mount a second half of the season charge, we have to be more clinical in games like this.
