I'm sure that most on here recognise that PS is doing a difficult job in difficult circumstances.

But 7 defeats against very lacklustre opposition is still 7 defeats.

Hopefully we'll set things right next week otherwise with costs running over budget I can see a big bust up coming with our main man.

Can't see Peter Taylor lasting much longer too - could he be the ex-blue ?

after last season just to stay in this league this season will do me, think their are too many fans expecting too much too soon, we gonna need a season in this league and push on from their.

Bit early to turn on him. I feel he will however get a lot less time that Steve Tilson would have done.

No issues with loosing if we play well such as Chesterfield but by the sounds of it we were crap today as we were against Morecombe and Crewe of late.

Rotherham are currently flying pretty high with a useful away record.IMO a point against them would be a good result.

7 defeats that include the top 3 in the division at the moment. Can't comment on today, but we've played very well and lost and played poorly and still lost. Our problem is still lack of goals and until that's sorted out, we're not going to make much progress at all. I still maintain that Sturrock and Corr are not the ideal pairing and either one of them would work well with a nippy little forward playing off them in the mould of either Crawford or Spencer. As someone pointed out, Sturrock doesn't ever come onto the pitch at the end and doesn't seem to have made any connection with the fans, therefore I don't expect it'll be too long. If things haven't improved by Christmas then certainly.

And yet he demands a "12th man" from the stands.

Same could be said about most of the players as well.

It could, but I was very pleased to see Craig Easton and Blair Sturrock at the Match for Martin last week, whether that was orders from the top or not (I have no idea), I thought it was a nice touch....and both were happy to chat to supporters. Don't forget Craig is also doing the Q&A at the Trust AGM. Some players do make the effort - and let's not forget that fans' favourite, Moussa, was one of the worst for acknowledging fans. Grant, Clohessy, Gilbert, Barker are the ones that do it match in, match out, fair play to them.

I wouldn't say that Paul Sturrock isn't trying to make a connection with supporters. Within just a few months of taking charge he had agreed to a Question & Answer session with Shrimpers Trust members and, as has already been mentioned, club captain Craig Easton will be performing a similiar role at the Trust AGM. Sturrock and Tommy Widdrington have certainly tried to get the players involved around the community much more than in recent years, and Sturrock said at the recent Q&A that he was willing for playing staff to be made available for events in the future: “I would be more than happy for the players to get involved in more events like this. I’ve got no problems with that. My personal opinion is that we’ve lost the support of the town, we have to win them back, so the more ventures I can get the players to, that will help us.” (Shrimpers Trust website: Q&A with Paul & Tommy).

Easton and Blair Sturrock were at the Match For Martin last week; Anthony Grant, Ryan Hall and Bilel Mohsni were at last weekend's Under-18s match against Gillingham with the manager and his assistant and were more than happy to mingle with the supporters that were there. I just think it's going to be a long rebuilding process.

Sturrock's also starting a manager's column in the Echo next week where he says he'll be able to let the fans know what's going on at the club.

Which as ever with these things will be 90% of the words of the journalist who ghost-writes it, presumably in this case Chris Phillips.

Damned if he does and damned if he doesn't with most fans and I think that is still the problem. People still clinging on to tillys reign and will not accept sturrock, even if he came round their house for tea every night.

Please God, NO! .............and I'd almost be prepared to take up religion in order to pray against it! Really nice bloke ..............but not as our manager again, thank you very much. PS may be under pressure but I doubt that he is under threat................not for the moment. Apart from anything else, I would imagine that the thought of terminating another managers contract, with all that may entail, is not at the forefront of Martin's mind. It's also always easy to talk about getting rid of people......................rather less easy to find who you replace them with. However, having said all that, if...............come January, we are flirting with the bottom two in the division..................................................

I said the same when some were calling for Tilly's head (many, many times I seem to remember) when we went through worse spells. My God we have short memories. You have to give managers time. For me it is at least the season. Plus there are other criteria apart from on field success this season. One is living within a restricted budget. Look at the whinging from Roy Keene about not being able to get in 2 players he wanted because Ipswich (who went into administration some years ago and put some small businesses out of business - what a wonderful "family" club) cannot afford it.
You do really get what you pay for.

If it were down to me then Tilly would still be the manager. Having said that the situation at our club isn't the making nor the fault of Paul Sturrock, he's placed in a position where he has to make a silk purse from a sows ear. He's the manager and an experienced manager and he must have the chance to manage, he has bought a few good players to the club, and a few that are at best sub standard. Unfortunately given the circumstances, the expectation and impatience of supporters he doesn't have a great deal of time to get it right.

But for those calling for his head, we've got a manager on a 3 year deal and not a financial pot to **** in, I can't see that happening. Sturrock has a decent(ish) record as a manager and I hope he'll be able to turn this around. My expectations of the season were mid table and I think that's where we'll be come May.

I feel quite sorry for Sturrock. Don't agree with the way he was brought in, or even the fact that he was brought in, but he has had to effectively build a team from nothing. Surely he needs at least a whole season, given the base that he had to work with?

Ron Martin, on the other hand...

Agree with this. He's also identified 3 good players (moshni, Clohessy and corr) who we could potentially sell at the end of the season for decent money. I've been impressed with a lot of the players he managed to get in, and now it's obvious who isn't up to scratch, he needs to be ruthless to allow space for some new players. Assuming he continues to find gems both at january and next summer our squad will continue to improve. I have faith in PS and we need to stick with him
