Which is absurd when there is a left back, signed by Brown this summer, on the bench

With a specialist left-back, a specialist centre-half and a specialist right-back on the bench we actually had more defenders on the bench than on the pitch.

I can't see him going unless we're in serious relegation trouble and rightly so. We're a small third division football club, we have no divine right to challenge for promotion and having over achieved last year, it looks like we're set for an inconsistent season this year thanks to injuries and other factors. That's life as a Southend fan I'm afraid. Brown has done a good job and unless he really loses the plot I can't see him budging.

Correct we are a small club with small fan base (which should be 2000 better IMO) but that team PB has put together is to win promotion, no two ways about it.

If we are in the relegation zone around March time maybe - other than that I think he'll be safe.

On a side note why do so many people spell struggle to spell 'lose'

Because they try to bring logical spelling to an illogical language.

How do you pronounce Loo? So why isn't it the same for Loose?

"How long does Brown get"?

I believe generally it's about 5ft 11 ins.

Although with some illegal studs on his boots, he might make 6ft.

I want us to do well but walking out the ground and hearing people say same old **** tells you something, I want brown to start winning but as iv said before I'm not sure he can this time! sat is must win to keep the fans happy or gates will start to fall away below 5k

He will still be here at seasons end, then i believe RM having put so much money into building a decent squad this season will sit back ,look at where we end up ,then assess the whole of the backroom staff ,from manager down before he makes any decisions on who stays and who goes.

I think a few of you are deluded. Ron has gambled heavily on promotion and it's all going to ****. Phil has probably until the New Year to turn it around. If we're not AT LEAST in the top 10 on Jan 1st, then I reckon he'll be going bye byes.

Its a gamble and Ron has a lot of elements to weigh up before making a decision on Brown's future. Many on the Zone believe PB is the man for the job and many, myself included, disagree.
PB oversaw a promotion for us. It was by the skin of the teeth but nevertheless it was a promotion. Some point out that he has improved our league position each season. The question is, with the squad and resources he has had available, has he really given us a sufficient return?
For a club, that many reckon is on its uppers, Ron has pulled rabbits out of the hat regularly in terms of transfers. Now it feels as though PB is chasing his bets. Successive gambles on players have not paid and so he ups the ante by bringing in bigger and better names, albeit historically, and blowing larger chunks of the budget on fewer areas. Thus far, this season, it is again a long shot and currently shows no signs of being anymore than an also ran.
Those that suggest the bigger names are not on better salaries than most, never say where the rest of the budget is then. If we are not paying higher sums to select individuals, and the squad is smaller, then either the budget has not been exhausted or the budget was reduced. I suggest neither of the two options and the truth is some players, those mostly not giving value for money, are indeed on higher wages.
So does Ron keep putting his shirt on a one trick pony or does he look for an a better pedigree elsewhere? Its all well and good walking the walk in the paddock but when the bets go down you need a runner that can justify favouritism.
Its tempting to look at the sellers and find something with some form but equally there is the chance of unearthing a prizewinner from a field of first time outs.
Ron needs to take the blinkers off and take a good look at the race. The finishing post is a way off but it gets closer every day. He either starts making headway through the pack or watches their dust disappearing in the distance.

People can't keep overlooking the relatively phenomenal financial backing Brown has had - I'd wager (no pun intended) that the average salary of the squad is in the top four or five in this league, yet we are absolutely miles off of being a top six side on the evidence so far.
