Presume there will be 2 mins of silence on here at 11am.

During break time at school which is a shame.. I'll be observing at 10.43 with the girls and again at 11.05.

In pace requiescat to all those who have fallen to allow us to be free and to make the world a better place.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Never forget

Dulce Et Decorum Est
Bent double, like old beggars under sacks,
Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge,
Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs
And towards our distant rest began to trudge.
Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots
But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind;
Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots
Of disappointed shells that dropped behind.

GAS! Gas! Quick, boys!-- An ecstasy of fumbling,
Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time;
But someone still was yelling out and stumbling
And floundering like a man in fire or lime.--
Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light
As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.

In all my dreams, before my helpless sight,
He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning.

If in some smothering dreams you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin;
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,--
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori.

Fairly ignored at work. Shame on those people who couldn't put the phone down for 2 mins, though I'm glad to say it wasn't "my team".

Well we did our bit here as I turned the forums off during the 2 minutes.

<Good morning, good morning’ the general said,.
When we met him last week on our way to the line.
Now the soldiers he smiled at are most of them dead,
And we’re cursing his staff for incompetent swine,.
‘He’s a cheery old card said Harry to Jack,
As they slogged up to Arras with rife and pack.’

But he did for them both with his plan of attack<

The Battle of the Somme.Kipling.

Remember doing that at school.

Observed a full two minutes at school in their own classrooms, following on from break. Lots of talking about the meaning behind and symbolism of the poppies, good to see youngsters seeking information about their relevant history.

I hope someone in Parliament calls that fat cow to task for this, better still if its from her own party

In the 8th East surreys,Capt Nevill's four platoons,each with a football competed for their company commanders prize.
Nevill himself kicked off.
As the gun-fire died away i saw an infantryman climb onto the parapet into No mans,beckoning others to follow.As he did so he kicked off a football; a good kick,the ball rose and travelled well towards the German line.That seemed to be the signal to advance.

pte L S Price 8th Royal Sussex on the First day of the battle of the Somme 1st July 1916,witnessing the attack of the East Surreys.

Nice graphics.:thumbsup:If this is aimed at me,I already have.:smiles:
(Although, as the holder of a British passport, I have the automatic right of abode in GB whenever I might care to exercise it).

Not everything is about you Barnaby. The graphic was aimed at 'Muslims Against Crusades' I believe. Your sense of self-importance is frankly staggering.
