I am wondering if we will see Skoal Bandits relaunched in this country so that people can enjoy their tobacco fix in pubs without having to smoke.
Many of my Nordic colleagues enjoy something they call 'snuss'. It's tobacco in a pouch, which you place on the inside of your mouth. I tried it once and nearly choked to death. As sure a recipe for mouth cancer as you're ever likely to find.[b said:Quote[/b] (Mad Cyril @ Feb. 16 2006,12:46)]I am wondering if we will see Skoal Bandits relaunched in this country so that people can enjoy their tobacco fix in pubs without having to smoke.
So by that argument, private clubs should be allowed to discriminate when they employ staff or pay them less than minimum wage? Surely they shouldn't be above the law?[b said:Quote[/b] (* ORM * @ Feb. 16 2006,12:39)]What I'm thinking is how can such legislation apply to a private club - surely a private club can make its own rules ?
I'm not disagreeing with you. For me it is just interesting as to whether or not the ruling could, or would, be challenged in the courts.[b said:Quote[/b] (hexagon_sun @ Feb. 16 2006,12:50)]So by that argument, private clubs should be allowed to discriminate when they employ staff or pay them less than minimum wage? As shouldn't the bars of the Houses of Parliment but the ban isn't going to apply there. Awaiting your arguement for that little bit of Britain.[b said:Quote[/b] (hexagon_sun @ Feb. 16 2006,12:50)]So by that argument, private clubs should be allowed to discriminate when they employ staff or pay them less than minimum wage? Matt, even you should know that's b******s. If that happened tomorrow, or it happened with the introduction of id cards, the outcome would be the same.[b said:Quote[/b] (Matt the Shrimp @ Feb. 15 2006,12:19)]My concern is that they may erode the presumption of innocence. Let's say your get mugged by someone who then steals a car, crashes it and flees the scene... dropping your wallet and ID car in the process.
Who's the first person the police are going to nick? You... "your ID card was found near the scene of the crime, sir..."
The reason that the smoking ban won't apply to the bars in Parliament is that technically The Houses of Parliament are a Palace owned by the Crown Estate... which is exempt from the legislation.[b said:Quote[/b] (Sebastian Weetabix @ Feb. 17 2006,22:55)]As shouldn't the bars of the Houses of Parliment but the ban isn't going to apply there.
