Thought he'd have more ambition than Huddersfield to be honest. Granted, they play in a higher division, but they're hardly prolific by any means.

He'll be back with us in 2 years after about 7 appearances , all of them as a sub. Good luck Payney , take a cushion with you mate.

I see Nathan Tyson has been released , 34 but always quality ..... i'd be happy to sign him up instead !!!

Fair enough he's gone for more money, I'm not saying hate the guy or anything I just don't think he's done anything for Southend to be fondly remembered.

Same here. Good player with loads of potential yet soon as he made the first team he left.

No loyalty in football and its his right to move on as a free agent, but wont be remembering him fondly either.

Shame as he was one of the few players we have had over the past few years to add a bit of magic.

Maybe in the long run it might be better for the player and the club .Seemed to me Jack Payne started to believe he was better than he was .Yes he had a few good games but he Also had some crap ones as well. Sadly again I believe this will prove to be the wrong move for him .Bentley may be next but at least he served his time in the lower tables before he decided to move on .Where as jack payne had a hand full of games then he moved on . I wish him well but I think the championship will tougher than he thinks .

We are told we are due compensation- I assume at this point the clubs decline to say whether its agreed, or we are off to tribunal. The fact he is going there is hardly a surprise.
