Matt, how do you know he's a quality signing?

I must admit he's one player who has slipped completely under my radar. I can't recall ever having seen him play and have no idea what his credentails are. I don't even know what wing he plays on.
He played for Orient whilst on loan from Charlton two or three years ago.

He played against us at Brisbane Road in a game we lost 2-1 (may have been one when Phil Whelan scored og) and was a class apart.

Decent signing, happy with that.

""I see the Shrimpers have brought in JMC from Rotherham.  He is the only opposition player receive a standing ovation that I can remember at Portman Road when he was taken off during our 4-3 win vs Rotherham late last season.
He was outstanding that night, but has a tendency to just run and run and run rather than pass the ball!! "

from my Ipswich Town buddy.

He certainly was a class apart that night at Birdbrain Road - absolutely fantastic signing for this football club and massive credit to Uncle Ron and the management for pulling off what is a major coup for Southend United.

Seems there was genuine interest from Palace only last week and from Ipswich in the summer - this signing clearly shows the ambition of those in charge to getting this club back in Division One (aka the stupidly re-branded "Championship").

Delighted!

Could be Campbell Ryce on the back of my shirt. Each signing Tilly makes brings extra quality to the club rather than just squad players who can do a job. Sure way to get us into the Championship in the not so distant furture.

Certainly be getting value for money!

I saw him come on as sub for Charlton against Arsenal almost 2 years ago. He was very fast but didn't get much joy up against Ashley Cole and Sol Campbell.

HKB - I don't know that he's quality, but I do believe that he's quality from all that I've read and heard about him.

Satisfied?

Just got back to work after catching half an hour or so of the reserves and he looked quite good, runs around an awful lot, great energy and can certainly beat his man. Put a great cross in from which Bentley hit the bar. Looks quite greedy, but then I only saw half an hour. Promising stuff.

I wasn't just being pedantic, I genuinely hadn't heard of him until we were linked with him on deadline day. Everyone seems to know all about him already, except me.

I want links, I want reports, I want more anecdotal stories by mates of mates about standing ovations when he played against their team.

Erm, most of the quotes I've seen have been from opposition fans on places like shrimpers.net. Not much in the press recently, although I did see the Derbyshire Times recently talking about JCR's appearance against Chesterfield and stating "Jamal Campbell-Ryce, who had an impressive loan spell with the Spireites last season..."

That, plus other stuff on other websites, does lead me to think he's a cracking signing.

Well he has had a cracking start to life with us as you lot are probably aware by now on JRC watch.

I have mentioned this before but JCR's pace will be a massive asset away from home when we go to certain places and want to hit on the break. Think of Cole left and JCR right, we'll be an extremely dangerous side to play against and with the forwards we have goalscoring won't be a problem. Thats not to say that Gower isn't playing well cos he is and deserves his place in the side, just highlighting the pace of Cole/JCR and I'd imagine with Gower's fitness record the chances of him being ever-present down the right for the whole season are slim. JCR (as Cole also demonstrated against Oldham) works hard for the team also so I don't see a problem defensively with Cole/Gower on the flanks.

I remember sitting up and taking notice of him when he came on for Charlton in a game I saw on TV because I knew he'd just been at Orient. At the time I was impressed and I remember thinking, as he'd just returned from Orient, how come we never get talent like that on loan from Prem clubs!? He got quite a big feature on the highlights programme for the impact he made when he came on. Can't remember who it was against though.
