Kevin Maher

Banksy

First XI
When KM joined this club as a kid, he was thrust into the side and nobody would even pass to him ! Now that was 8/9 years ago (The managment then must have seen something)!

This fella is a good player and all you knockers out there,
in a decent side KM, will come to the fore. He's now the main man. But he needs assistance along side of him. Gutteridge looks good but can he deliver at the next level. One thing for sure, KM can !
But I think we need another quality mid-fielder to support the CAPTAIN !

I am delighted for Kev. Just goes to show that a bit of loyalty goes a long way and its now got to the point that our midfield just doesn't work without him.
I admit to being less than impressed when he first joined us but now he should by rights earn himself player of the year although this is highly unlikely with Sir Fred in the team.
I find it incredible that some people still knock him but I guess this is the sorry state of some of the part time fans.
I think Gutts has performed brilliantly this year, and it shows by him keeping Benno out of the team. I don't think we need a new central pairing but maybe some extra stamina training instead!

I'm with you Banksy. For me Maher holds the team together. He doesnt always stand out but his link up play and short passes keep the ball moving. When he is not on form we dont pass the ball and revert to long stuff which apart form not working has no entertainment value.

Maher and Guttridge is the best centre midfield partnership we've had at this club in years.

Maher's importance has come to the fore in the last two seasons under Tilson, our team looks strange without him now!

I'm glad for him and it would be great if he could lift the League 1 Championship trophy.

I said at the time what a visionary Alvin Martin was but received nothing but abuse from my fellow shrimpers.

If we had stuck with Martin I firmly believe that

1. We would be playing in the Premier League.

2. Sada 'Pepe' N'Diaye and Neville Roach would be household names.

3. Regis Cobault would have captained France to the world cup and nobody would have heard of Zinedine Zidane.

Agree with that - with Gutts often documented injury problems in previous seasons, I don't think he has played so many games for quite a few years. Extra stamina training and we'll be ok in the middle of the park next season.

Unless Man United come in for him with a £5million cheque...

Seeing as:

a) you posted at a time when most people are either on their way to work or having their breakfast

and

b) you only waited all of 32 minutes

It's hardly suprising, is it?

Kevin is pivitol to all the sucess that we have had over the past seasons. It speaks volumes that every manager since Alan Little has picked him and he also survied the Webb and Wignall culls.

I can only suggest the people that call for Kev to be dropped havent played to much of a standard themselves as her personally for me would be an ideal player to have in my team.

DtS

Kevin Maher know what is like to spend the first part of 6 season full of rubbish, a relegation from 1997/98 & another 5 season finishing in bottom 10 of League 2 every season with the like of G. Jone, Roach & Whelan etc. He turn down Orient few season ago, beliving that he CAN play at high level with Southend - Orient fans laughed at Maher for that, guess who had the last laugh. If I was Maher, I would have quit after 2 season with Southend, I would if I was in his shoe, but Iam for one, glad he stuck with us.

Its would bring a little tear in my eye if I see Maher lift the Trophy in front of full house, which few season ago, only a pig fly past if Maher was going to have sort of season like he had in last 3 season!

Give that man loads of credit for being loyal with us, the day of him getting stick is long gone & he deserve every cheer we give him.

Arise "Sir" Kevin Maher.

i am a BIG fan
a really good lad and stuck with through all the bad days

not perfect, but gives 110% and would like to see him and club for years to come!

and got that on good authority.....

It's pronounced Marr, as in Johnny Marr who was also called Maher but got pi$$ed off with people saying his name wrong.
