Post-Match Thread and Ratings Kings Lynn Town 0-1 Southend United

A winning start to the new season was the perfect start for us yesterday. To be there to share the joy after the final whistle with the staff, players and every single one of those who travelled was a pleasure. The game itself, I thought we started brightly and really put our stamp on the game early with the goal. I'd like to think the players would have been driven by those of us in attendance and that showed. Second half became a bit "you attack, we attack" and at the end it could have very easily ended 1-1 or 3-0, especially if Rhys Murphy had his shooting boots on.

Arnold: 7- Made some really good saves. Commanded his area really well. Kicking left a bit to be desired other than that really good pass that lead to a Murphy opportunity.

White: 7- Typical John White performance.
Coulson:7- Comfortable debut, looked a step up in quality compared to his opposition.
Raplh: 7- Looks far to good for this level in my opinion. Big player if we can keep him fit.

JD: 6- He did okay, nothing more.
Ogogo: 7- Hassled his man at every opportunity. Always seemed to be in the right place at the right time.
Phillips: 8- Really impressed with his performance. Kept things simple and didn't stop working all game long. MOTM
Ferguson: 6- I expect more, I want to see more.. I think there is more to come.
Bridge: 6- Started brightly, faded after taking a whack. Not sure wing back is his best position.

Dalby: 7- Debut goal, worked hard. Showed some lovely touches to bring others in to play.
Murphy: 7- Could and should have score 2, possibly 3. Plenty of work up top though and had the Lynn defence rattled all game.

Hobson: 6- Didn't do anything wrong.
Dennis: 6- Could have had a debut goal but for some really good defending. Very powerful runner.

Fans: 10- Excellent turnout. Didn't stop singing all game long. It felt like a home game.

I forgot to add to my post 10 the following. Why on earth do we try the short corners? We tried it twice yesterday once within 4 minuets and then early in the second half. It is beyond belief that on bath occasion we had Coulson hovering in their penalty area awaiting good delivery to bang in a storming header and on both occasion we muck up the short corner and immediately gave possession to KL who immediately put us under pressure because most of our players were in their penalty area.
PB just get them to get the ball across from the corner direct and at least give Coulson Murphy and Dalby a chance to score.
Hope we don't do the same against Stockport.

Harry Phillip's impressed me most yesterday! Was great to see him bossing the midfield after such a long absence. Coulson was also very impressive at the back, great signing. Ogogo was everywhere in the middle too. Murphy should have netted a few goals but I'm confident it was just an off day. Dalby has continued to impress, not greedy like Murphy and plays well in the final third, desire unlike previous strikers and also height and strength that will be invaluable this season. Feel the game was missing Rush to come on last half hour when us and our opponents were tiring. Lots of space to attack and I think he would have netted a goal or two. Onto Stockport and Wealdstone. The 13-0 win by Daggers over Great Wakering might seem more influential than some wanted to believe... UTB!!

I feel Dizzy my head is spinning!!!
Cos the Blues have gone back to winning!!!

Great performance compared to the last 3 seasons.
90 minutes of why Phil Brown can stabilise the ship and bring some pride back to this football club and the fans ! Oh the fans, How good is it to be back at football matches again?

get behind this club and the players, sing like you have never sung and for all your worth this season, don't know where we will finish, but we could give this division a go and the likes of Wrexham and chesterfield will be hard pushed to beat our passion in the stands, that's for sure.

Hopefully the home fans can get behind the players like the away fans!! Could make a massive difference given last seasons demise.. we were not far off avoiding relegation. The fans could well have made the difference being our 12th man!

In Northern France on way back from some sunshine down sarf. What great reading this thread makes. My dear brother was at the game and met up with the legend that is Nobbler. And my son, Lincoln Shrimp also, with his partner and three offspring. Two of the young people featured in Echo pics too. So lots to rejoice about. Please let's have another win on the tele next Saturday when I shall be back. Great days! COYB

What a brilliant day yesterday. Being back at an away game, seeing so many faces I haven't seen in so long was just fantastic, and to cap it off a mate of ours who has been living in India for about five years surprised us all by showing up and revealing he's moved back home.

Could hardly see a thing, but it felt absolutely fantastic to be part of such outstanding support and things look much improved on the field. The spine of the team has been strengthened significantly and I expect the likes of Murphy, Ogogo and Coulson to be real key men this year. A lot of positives, although I felt we made hard work of it a little at times. One nil Phil is certainly back.

It's been nearly four and a half years since I saw us win away, in about 25 attempts. Could have done without the squeaky finish but there are no better feelings than celebrating a goal and a win away from home, and I had forgotten that.

It's actually me (Ed), great to be back for that, and it's actually been 10 years Jai!

I must say I thought King's Lynn was a delightful town, the park areas near the ground were very pleasant. And several interesting architectural monuments, such as one church with flying buttresses near the station.

Have to agree with the length of the grass, ridiculous!

On another day we will score a lot more and win comfortably, but this is Southend and we always do it the hard way!

Us fans were amazing, we must have been around 2,000, but they have to sort out the terracing with that amount of fans, the view was awful.

So good to see great friends again after so long and many familiar faces.

See you all at Solihull Moors!
