SUFC: The Future Next season

At a minimum a top class CB and CF. If the goal is to win the league we’re at least a Fondop/Pearce level striker and Lopata level CB away, and probably a bit more.

Top 3 feels a more realistic aim but that puts us back to where we were today at best. Realistically think we’ve got another few seasons at this level at this rate.

I think we’re sorted in CM unless someone comes along who can really improve us, would like a LWB to compete with Bridge with LCP moving inside.

I’d be ok with Goodliffe if he’s cheap as a backup.

Obviously we need to strengthen if we want to consistently week in week out challenge for that one automatic promotion spot. Based on our goals return for this season in comparison to Barnet & York for example we need to import another 20/25 goals next term and arguably even if we retain GSM services he is unlikely to hit the goal scoring heights of this season so we will need to potential offset in the region of 10/15 goals there. So It's all about Strikers for me as a priority, ideally two although the addition of a goal scoring midfield would not be sneezed at! Hopefully Kendall potentially will be able to contribute a return somewhere between 10/15 but that will have to be seen. CB recruitment is vital, again based on our current permanent signings and in consideration of our loans in for this season, I would like to see two additions.
Ideally LWB needs to be addressed too.
Hopefully Justin's expressed frustration with the NL last week over 'ticketgate' and his remark about being 'done' with this League, leads to a little more flexibility in the Transfer budget to secure the right target's but obviously never to the detriment of the sustainability philosophy of COSU.
Even in the post match disappointment I still feel the positivity that was ignited by the takeover forcing it's way to the top, honestly next season could be very special both on and off the pitch.

Yep! Gone are the days of the NL being mostly made up of semi-pro clubs who just made up the numbers in L2 following promotion. The top 10 in the NL are arguably better sides than the bottom 10 in L2. Has to happen. And I would still be saying it even if we’d gone up today.
Is it being voted on?

Today we lost a game that we could have won.

This says to me that the overall standard of the team is pretty good.

We all want a 20 a season goal scorer but personally I think we are crying out for someone to dominate the central midfield and be that nasty piece of work who disrupts the opposition but more importantly helps us keep our shape by handling out bollockings when needed.

Husin nor this version of Miley are capable of being that player.

Now that it’s done, let’s shake Bonne & Goodliffe’s hand and wish them all the best. Do our best to tie Keenan and Leon down to new terms as I suspect league clubs will come in for both if not this summer at least in Jan. A top proven Goalscorer of Norwood/Pearce level finisher is essential and an aerially dominant centre half a must. Wouldn’t be against cashing in on Gus either as the goals have and will continue to dry up and he’s at peak age. Get it right this summer and the league is there for the taking imo

Miley could and probably should have been sent off today, for another awful tackle.

Husin has one of his better games I thought, BUT he still hardly ever drove forward, instead spread the play more and used width well

However, both the two above highlight my problem with our current midfield. We lack creativity and penetration to release whoever is upfront.

So although my list is much the same as everyone else's of:

2 x CB, one with a bit of pace

Proper LWB

2 x Strikers - 1 an effective target man

2 midfielders - 1 a creative type and one an attacking goalscoring midfielder.

For me it is the midfield that is the key to enable us to kick on to the next level next season.

We need to be able to maintain possession, but drive forward, putting defences on the back foot and we simply don't do that enough at the moment. We are too slow and ponderous and that has to change, end of!

Kev says he knows what is required, so looking forward to seeing some better coming in. 11 signings please!

We need

A solid goalie. Hayes to depart. Colin as back up
A younger faster smarter central defender or 2 eg Golding
Back up for Ralph / Taylor if current squad members don't stay ie crowther gubbins
1-2 left wingers aka Gus style
1-2 central mid / attack mid
3 forwards - 2 big guys and a pacy skillful striker

Ie almost a like for like remove and add / improve

Ideal world :

To go 12
Bridge
Goodlife
Hayes
Miley
Coker
Hopper
Kendall
Bonne
Crowther
Gubbins
Wood
Waldron

Keep 9
Colin
Taylor
Ralph
Husin
Gus
Wind
Parillion
Morton
Appiah forson

And keep kids

Ive stated a few times a midfield general in the mould off Leonard plus a hard nosed CB like Barrett was, we need leaders more than anything. as for our GK we need 2 ,Hayes no good enough and COLIN injury prone , has he had a season with us yet when he hasnt been injured and missed a good amount of games , im sorry as good as he could be hes made off Cardboard. Definitely need a good LWB and two strikers wh know where the onion bag is ,

Hopefully the playoff adventure will increase the budget a bit!
Some long travels to the extreme north and west, I'm sure Kev will be highlighting the likes of Carlisle where the Linney signing is concerned.

We have some real talented core players BUT we also need a strong window with numbers. We're also up against it with a short rest/summer due to the playoffs.

Joseph Oluwa has turned down a deal with Rovers, moved back to Peckham to be involved with his church. He is a quality CB, dominates his area and has pace. He is on a free, from what I understand money and league are unimportant to him. He would be a big coup for Southend. I hope the right people at the club know of his availability.

You would like to think that the bonus money from the two play off legs, RH live beaming's and final would be given to Kev to buy 3-4 decent players for next season to just fkin go for it.

There is plenty of money on that board with the likes of Taylor/American tech wiz kid so I think now is the time to put their money where their mouths are.

I agree we need a new GK, Centre half and a couple of strikers and from there we can really challenge for that number one spot to get out of the poxy no good league, that is run my complete charlatans. who are still of a GM Vauxhall conference mindset in a league full of mostly proper pro clubs.

Am I right in thinking the only players not still under contract are:

Bonne
Ralph
Wood
Waldron
Plus Goodliffe on loan?

Doesn’t give us much room for manoeuvre.
