Probably has cost the club a couple of million and the momentum in support which would have followed a win . Playing wise we certainly aren't anywhere near being a Barnet.so next season without the three up will be just as difficult with a the likes of York and Carlisle to contend with. To be so close was cruel ,but over 90 Oldham edged it.We could be in this awful league for years so the missed chance is so painful

Easy to say in hindsight but if Walker scores that chance we'd all be praising Kev for going for a third instead of trying to park the bus. I think Gubbins was meant to come on at 2-2 but the third happened so quickly we didn't have time to make it.

Problem is that even when a team is 'against the ropes' in extra time, you know that they will have a brief spell when they get momentum again?. Unfortunately we lacked a couple of experienced players who could have slowed the game down for us during that spell, & got us across the line?.
 
First post in a long time.

I’m really proud of the team. They gave everything; there were a lot of tired legs and minds at the end.

The consensus in our group was that it was probably too soon for us. That being said, it was so hard to take conceding twice in two minutes. It’s going to hurt those players, being so close to promotion.

We nearly didn’t have a club last year and that’s worth remembering. Let’s see what next season brings.

Absolutely agree, a Demi or Adam B and we might have held on.

This is what a lot of people forget.

They also forget that Kevin Maher, many of the players and the Roots Hall staff went unpaid for months but stuck by us.

We need to do the same.
 
Very hard to take.

That close to the football league.

Great effort but really not enough quality. I wont go into which players need to be replaced as im pretty sure we all know where we need to strengthen.

Will we ever get out of this league?

Im ready for the close season.
 
Goodliffe might have made a mistake today but I don't think we would have got through to Wembley without him.

It's a shame because the game seemed to be in control and they equalised from what seemed like a pretty hopeful lump forward. 3rd was a fluke.

Over the 90 (before ET) Oldham were the better team, but it hurts to lose when you're in that position. Hurts more when you're in a stupid league with only 1 automatic promotion spot, it's ridiculous.

We have manger that’s very defensive only changed cos he was getting booed, our best player was on the bench(leon) and then subs an attacking midfielder for a defender!!!

If you honestly think our manager changed tactics because you were booing you are deluded. And if you recall, we were winning with Leon on the pitch. Are you Shrimpet Steve in disguise?

Exactly ! That hopeful punt over the top was all they had and in general we dealt with it for 120 minutes then crash. The fluke winner makes everyone look stupid but you can’t apportion blame. We’ve a play off quality team but we need some serious investment in the squad to get the extra 25-30 points for automatic promotion. Shopping in the NLS and NLN stabilised the club but it’s the lottery of the play offs again next year if that’s the strategy. The spine. GK, CB, CM and CF. Oddly not gutted about the result, just the thought of the places we’re going again next season. Thought the Oldham fans were top drawer today.
