If Brown goes, I think Penny is likely to go with him.

Would he rather go to Bolton as an assistant in a side that looks almost doomed already, or take the top job at a League Two side which has been fighting for promotion for the past 3 years.... and looks more than capable again this year.

Fingers crossed PB stays, but I imagine DP will take the job should he leave.

As others have mentioned, continuity will be key if we are to go up. We have a fantastic squad, just missing that killer striker!!

When Brown brought Penney in as his number two perhaps part of the deal was that he could end up being his successor when he moves on, which realistically Brown probably wanted to do within a couple of years. I don't think Penney was a coach for Brown before so it's not as if it's a pre-requisite that wherever Brown manages Penney has to work with him.

IF he went then I would expect Coughlan to take over, at least temporarily.

Coughlan deserves his chance if Brown leaves, which is looking slightly more unlikely today as Jimmy Phillips has been installed as the big fave for the Bolton job. Cocko has said before he wants to be a manager one day and has been so vital for us behind the scenes since joining. I hope we give him an opportunity sometime in the future, otherwise can see him leaving for a club soon that does.

Interestingly, the Echo is carrying a story today where Brown states that there is no truth in the Bolton rumours. No doubt they will post the full article so I will not paraphrase it here. Ok, you would expect Brown to say something but this is quite definite . All that said, he will probably bugger off tomorrow!!

Indeed, he may well say that anyway, but then he may have just kept quiet. Surely Bolton have already contacted their targets?

Story wont go away till they appoint someone as always.

I've heard from someone loosely connected (a player who played with someone who is friends with someone at Bolton kind of loose connection) that Phil is off the shortlist and Malky is going to get a very low paid offer which they expect him to take as he needs to rebuild his name. Could be codswallop, very contentious source

I'm not being argumentative (well actually I am a bit!) - but why do you say Coughlan deserves his chance? I'm not saying you are wrong, I have no idea, just wondered what he has done to deserve the chance above anyone else?

Ladbrokes still have PB as favourite at 2/1 with Mackay 6/1

PB price is going out all the time like I said. PB said in the Echo today that he has had no contact from Bolton and does not know where the rumours have come from. All money is for Mowbray, Mackay and a bit for Phillips. That more or less tells you that PB is out of the running, and was probably never in it. Just someone putting his Bolton connection together.

If it was Brown against Mackay you'd expect them to go with the latter anway. Cant see it happening to be honest. If he gets us promoted that may change next year...

If it happens would love too see Alan Devonshire doing a great job at part time Braintree on limited money

UTS

I am sure that I read somewhere that somebody was quoted as saying that Alan Devonshire "would and should be managing in the Football League if he had the required badges to do so" with the insinution being that he was not qualified to manage at league level as his coaching credentials were not good enough.

Skybet are the ones to go by. Sky have people all over the place and always get the word first.

Or, you know, report on the rumours and tantalisingly price it so that people fancy an ultimately unsuccessful punt. Just like they do on transfer rumours.
