Tomorrow's match against Port Vale (or Port Value as the OS referred to them as) sees 4th year referee, Roger East from Salisbury, in charge. He achieved some success as an Assistant Referee being appointed to the 2004 Cup Final and a couple of playoff finals.
Wasn't uniformly popular especially in his Conference days but seems to have settled into the Football League and has refereed a good number of Championship games.
His five previous Southend games included Northampton and Yeovil, both away, three seasons ago, Millwall at home the season before last and Brighton away last season.
The fifth one was Exeter away last season when we lost 1-0 and he sent off Corr whilst he was playing for them. He also sent off Ibehre for us. The only goal of the game was scored by Adam Stansfield who tragically passed away recently and whose funeral is at Exeter catherdral next Wednesday
The shaven-headed Mr East does not skimp on his cards, but I don't think we've had much cause for complaint hitherto.
His assistants will be Stuart Butler from Kent in his first season and Andy Davies from Hampshire.
Fourth official is John Magill from Colchester.
