We were under an embargo because it is more sensible by far to wait until absolutely necessary to pay certain bills. We deliberately waited later because we can only have Tam for a month and we wanted him for as many games as possible.

That is utterly sensible management of very limited funds. Wish people would stop spouting garbage like 'pay your bills', as if it is an option that Ron simply doesn't fancy. We are skint. We have a low turnover and a set of fans who expect promotion and new players every other week.

I personally think that Ron's greatest failing is - as it always has been - being too ambitious. We have cut our budget drastically since relegation, but I think it needs to come down more. A club in our precarious position should not have had 7 strikers on the books for a large part of the season.

The methods he uses in regards to prioritising bill payments and accepting embargos as part and parcel of our short-term future is absolutely one of his best attributes, and is utterly essential to our continued existence.

Edited for accuracy:winking:

I think you make some excellent points. It is a juggling act and some bills have to be prioritised ahead of others. I think the frustration is we don't really see an end to all the financial woes and the stark reality is we probably will have to cut the budget again, which will probably mean a higher likelihood of staying in this division for quite some time.

It's not just our fans with high expectations. I think it's a reflection of society as a whole. We demand instant results, information etc and football is a reflection of that. Managers now can expect to be sacked if they don't deliver success within a couple of years, which never used to be the way.

Sometimes it also takes failure to make some people appreciate when we were successful too without realising it at the time.

Agreed. This could well happen when Sturrock goes at the end of the season, which I think we all agree is likely.
