Our referee for the Good Friday lunchtime international match is Kevin Wright. Once again we have a referee who missed the first three quarters of the season through injury and this will be his 5th match of what is his 5th season as a League referee. It will also be his 5th Southend League match, all at home (3 wins and a draw so far) but he blotted his copybook by also doing the cup defeat at home to MK Dons.

His debut League match was at Roots Hall for the victory over Cheltenham at the start of the 03/04 season and the pick of his other matches was our 1-0 win over Forest the year before last.

Not a referee to shirk the use of his cards as evidenced by a very soft red card for Cardiff's Hasselbaink at Layer Road on Saturday. Perhaps he doesn't like the Welsh (or perhaps the Surinamese?). Tries to keep the game flowing where he can.

His assistants on Friday will be John Magill from Colchester and Matt Stewart from Harwich. Hopefully Wright's injury is completely clear as we won't want to see 4th official Ian Bentley from Kent given anything vaguely responsible to do.

Joy 1 inbred lino and 1 lino from harwich.
It seems they're all local "assistants" colchester, harwich (kind of) and kent
