On Saturday Rob Lewis, from Shrewsbury, makes his first visit to Roots Hall as a referee. Last season was his first full year on the League list and he was awarded a number of Championship matches including our 3-0 defeat at Derby. For some reason, presumably injury as per our previous ref, he has only done a handful of matches this season.

His main claim to fame is the fact that he was the assistant referee involved in the incredible decision when Tottenham's Pedro Mendes' long shot at Old Trafford was about two yards over the line but no goal was given.

He hasn't had an away win in his matches for over a year - and this is no time to start.

He has had no cardless matches in his League career - this is a good time to start.

Not to be confused with famous referee R. Lewis from Great Bookham, who refereed the Hillsborough tragedy match.

Assisting him will be Messrs Beevor and Buck converging on Essex from Suffolk and Kent respectively.

That was a shocking decision. Let's hope his eyesight is better on Saturday...
