Richie Foran - relegation release clause?

I have been led to believe that Richie Foran has a relegation release clause in his contract.

Personally, I'm not going to lose any sleep over this!

firstly.. might not be true
secondly... i don't see it being activated!!

Foran was out with the locals in Wakering last weekend after the Luton game, maybe his relegation cause will seem him in the Ryman League Div 1 north next season.

is he another wakering resident then? or is he bunking up with macca?

maybe they live happily in martyrn booty's old house....

I think relegation clauses are pretty normal.

Good to see Foran getting a Clarke/Paynter like slating on here though after half a dozen games. No lessons learnt then....

Wasnt that long ago everyone was clammering for him to have a starting place.

Lets see how he does next season.

i think relegation clauses are bollocks....might explain why a few were not trying towards the end of the season as to them it didn't matter....:(

Yeah I think they are pretty standard. Let's face it it is probably one of the factors that would get people to sign for a team which is at the bottom of a division.

It is also beneficial for the club as well - if a club had a lot of highly paid players that weren't doing the business, it would give them a chance to get rid of them so they wouldn't have a crippling wage bill at a lower league (which is what happened to us last time).

But just because it has a clause doesn't mean it will be invoked.

Cant see how it helps the club, if you get relegated and cant afford the player you just transfer list him, dont need a relegation clause.

As you say a relegation clause isnt worth much unless a team comes in for him, and lets face it no Championship side will be interested and I cant see him returning to Scotland.

I wasn't!
I warned everybody what we were getting and that Motherwell were shafting us!
Therefore my criticism of him is entirely justified from my point of view!

Exactly, and if there's a clause then no doubt there will be an amount that has to be met to activate that clause too. Hammell's amount to activate could be as much as a million for all we know...

could well be... i don't think forans and hammells clauses will be low. I would suggest that they would be there incase we went down and they were by far our best players... I can't see much interest in them below the border really

I think both will be here next season. You dont just bugger off after a season or half a season. Unless your names Craig Bellamy.

These clauses definitely help the club.

Remember last time we got relegated from this division? We were paying 2nd division wages in the 3rd division and that really hurt us, particularly as the players were 4th division quality!

If the clubs have any sense they'll peg wages to the division they are playing in. Nobody is keen on a pay-cut, so the trade off is that they ask for a relegation release clause in their contract, so they can leave and go somewhere on the same or more money.

All true re the relegation clauses, but then why on God's good earth did we pay anywhere between 150 - 250K (*) for what, realistically, was going to be a couple of months of service at the most?

 :thump:

Matt

(*Does anyone know exactly how much we did pay for that last minute winner against Burnley?)

Foran's first few games were amazing, and his goal against Burnley crucial!! Admitted sinse the ball hit the back of the net that day, he has been ****ing useless, but I am willing to stay off his back and give him a chance to prove that he and Hooper can be the most prolific partnership in league 1 next season

I think most transfer fees are highly structured. I doubt we'd have paid more than 50k at most up front. Further instalments may well have been conditional eg a further £50,000 if we stay up, and after 25 or 50 appearances. Then there is the wages angle to consider. Considering wages, to sign Foran probably cost us as much as signing an out of favour and unproven premier$hite player (a Jay-Lloyd Samuel) on loan, but with the knowledge that if it worked out he was ours to keep.

Not a great signing, but probably not a financially disasterous one either.
