Rob Newman is assistant manager/coach(temporary) at Cambridge as Cambridge have no manager. Wonder if he'll last a long time there?

Lucky them. Perhaps he'll take Rio Alderton and Tom Jordan with him.

Well I for one wish Rob Newman all the success he derserves. He was a tireless servant for SUFC as a player, a real Mr. 110%. As a manager he did his very best and I feel may have turned the corner in time and with a bit more support from all around. With the 'Tilsondays' showing such promise and with Steves penchant for local people and committed staff I would love to have seen Rob given a role at the club, scout/coach etc... Good man that Rob and we should be proud of his contribution to this club.

He had support, he had time and he had backing. He just wasn't good enough. As for his effort yes he was a good servent to the club but he didn't cut it. Best of luck to him but football management really isnt his fortay.

Your opinion, my opinion. Opinions vary but facts speak for themselves. Newman had a below par side, tuppence to spend and nothing to lend. His side did not play fancy football. It was not capable. Newman did what he could to ensure survival. No thrills. Tilly has done wonders with little but not as little as Rob. Whether you consider Newman to be a poor manager is academic. He gave his all which is a lot more than many have for Southend. Its just a shame that this site specialises in side swipes and abuse. Too many are too quick to put the proverbial boot in. Nuff said.

I wish Rob or the best in football management and I wish we had never sacked. The board bottled it with that one, he'd just beaten Orient and he gets the sack, very strange. Granted results hadn't been fantastic before that but according to many the Orient game would decide his fate.

I'll not enter into a debate about Newmans' abilities as a player or manager, but irrespective of that, I certainly think we should be wishing him every future success (apart from when we play whoever he may be associated with at the time

it was also his 41st birthday this week according to the echo so many happy returns Rob.....

The sentiment is echoed here. He will certainly not be anywhere near the worst managers we had, and I think if Webby had longer showing him the ropes he could have made a better fist of things.

Great player for Southend - Yes, Manager - No!

Iam won't put an boot into Newman, I wish him well at Cambridge. Looking back, the board was RIGHT to sack Newman, its not just he an cr*p manager, look at the players he sign - Foley, Marney & Beard etc .. they are sort that would put any club into Conference. If we has kept him, I don't think he will sign players like Gower, Bentley, Dudfield & Fredy ........ but sign players that not good enough for this level.

Newman need to learn from his experince & get better.

How about sz mods linking some high powered voltage to the site so that anyone mentioning the B and F * words in the same thread automatically get a short, sharp jolt through their keyboards.

* B&F denoting our first and second choice keepers (in no particular order of course)
