Rochdale fan here. This post aimed at the people like myself who centre an away trip on a reet good drink. For those arriving by train,around the station there is absolutely nothing. I did read an earlier “tongue in cheek” request of what the brass houses were like!! Well,if you like your women with one tooth in their head and track marks up their arms then the back of the station is for you my friend. For the rest,head to town,10 minute walk,or a tram right outside the station takes 2 minutes. Cask and Feather is a pub half way down Drake Street,for those walking. It has in last couple of seasons sold itself as an “away fan” pub.
In town centre,everything there. Those who are booked into the Hampton,perfect spot,2 minute walk. Near transport interchange you have Spoons,Hogarths (like Spoons but with music and TV’s) and 3 micropubs. Round the corner is the Town Hall Square,row of 3 pubs,Flying Horse by far the best for real ale. Seats outside overlooking what I consider the most beautiful town hall in Britain. 5 minutes walk out from town is The Baum,good real ale,fantastic beer garden.
Don’t bother walking to the ground,it’s 20 minutes of your life you won’t get back. Used to be 7pubs on Spotland Road,now 0,could link that in to the mentioned posts of the town being a “****hole”. Could describe at least another 50 towns like ours,where the whole fabric of the place has changed in the last 30 years,but that’s a debate for another day.Taxi rank outside Spoons. Either head to The Cemetery,real ale staple for years,15 minutes walk to the ground. A good alternative now is the converted Spotland Bridge Mill,5 minutes walk to the ground. Has the Twisted Mule (real ale),open at 4pm,next door is the Defiance Gin Bar,a “cool” gaffe for Rochdale really,opens at 5pm.
Up at the ground we have the Ratcliffe,the stadium bar,JW Lees,a local independent brewery is the real ale provider. To soak it up you have one of the best traditional English chippys in the country right across the road from the away end on Wilbutts Lane.

Still projected to be warmer than Southend. I’ll offer free cuddles to anyone feeling cold tomorrow evening. Been keeping busy with family matters but just started, for the first time, to get twitchy. Plan to be there by 2, check in, go for a hike, come back shower and change, then find the chosen pub.
