Roger Buxton

My apologies. The source where I read this earlier (Southend & District Club Cricket: Memories of a Different Era) has now corrected the news. Roger has not passed away...which is great news - especially for Roger. Please edit/delete your posts accordingly
The word going round the local cricket world is that the appeal from the Grim Reaper was for LBW but a DRS review showed it going a bit down the legside so umpire's call who had declined the initial appeal...

So, NOT OUT!!!

Must be about 50 years ago but remember it well. There used to be a weekly quiz show on BBC Essex where a visiting team took on the broadcasters, three on each side. We walked into the studio and were warmly greeted by the captain, Roger, who turned to his colleagues and proclaimed with a theatrical flourish, 'My god, they look a desperately intelligent bunch, we're in trouble here boys'. I can't recall who won but he made it an enjoyable occasion and made us feel relaxed and welcome. A real gentleman.
