There is a march and a counter demo.

What usually happens when the EDL march is.....

....the pubs near to the marches will be shut on police orders
.... access and exit to the march areas will be restricted by the police. So, if you do pop along to either rally, you will probably be kettled and you wont be allowed to leave until the rally is over. Even then, they will let one rally go before letting out of the other. So you wont get to see the game
.... the train station is usually an EDL meeting point, as such the UAF will target that for a counter demo
.... there is ALWAYS the potential for something nasty to happen, especially if the marches are bigger than anticipated

Not sure where their new ground is in comparison to the rally points, if its an out of towner then there will be no problems as far as the game is concerned, but you may find getting there will take a bit longer than usual as the police will check cars and coaches coming into town to make sure no one is armed up (seriously) and that rally goers end up at the right place (coz it gets messy if you go to the wrong one).

WHOSE STREETS???!!!!

Spot the EDL supporter - you seem to know a lot about their rallies.....

  Spoiler:
:winking:

If you're changing trains at Sheffield then the Sheffield Tap (on platform 1) is well worth a visit. Can't wear colours though. There are some good pubs within a 5 min walk of Sheffield station too.

Don't know Rotherham at all, hopefully the demo(s) won't have a big impact. See you all there!

Police statement regarding saturdays march
he details of the two events taking place on Saturday (October 13) in Rotherham Town Centre involving the English Defence League and United Against Fascism have now been confirmed.

Following consultation between South Yorkshire Police and the English Defence League, the route of the EDL march has now been agreed. EDL members taking part – an estimate of up to 200 people - will meet at the County Borough pub from 11.30am onwards, and the march will begin at 12.30pm.

The agreed route is from the County Borough, uphill along Corporation Street, making use of what is normally the bus lane, and Ship Hill. The marchers will then gather in an area outside Rotherham Town Hall for a number of public speeches by organisers.

The EDL have agreed to move the timings and duration of this event at the request of South Yorkshire Police to ensure the area can be cleared by 1.30pm.

United Against Fascism will be holding a celebration event in All Saints’ Square between 11am and 4pm, and have submitted a licensing application to Rotherham Borough Council to hold this in the town centre. An estimated 250 people are expected to attend this event.

UAF are also proposing to march to the Town Hall and have co-operated with South Yorkshire Police in agreeing that this will not take place until the area has been cleared. This is unlikely to be before 3pm. The route will be along Church Street (the Minster side of Minster Gardens) and directly up Moorgate Street to the Town Hall.

People have asked why can’t we ban the march. In a democratic society, people have the right to legal and peaceful protest. Any attempt to ban a march such as that proposed this weekend would involve invoking the Public Order Act and an application, via the local authority, to the Home Secretary, demonstrating a real prospect of serious disruption and disorder that could be dealt with by no other means.

We do not believe this to be the case here. Based on the information available and liaison with the event organisations, South Yorkshire Police and Rotherham Borough Council have put in place a plan that deals with all contingencies.

!
It is expected that there will be some disruption to public transport with the Corporation Street bus lane likely to be closed between 12 noon and 3pm. Further information will be made available once this is confirmed. Drivers are asked to avoid the Corporation Street/Ship Hill/Moorgate Street areas during this time, if at all possible.

Both South Yorkshire Police and Rotherham Borough Council are working with local businesses and communities to provide as much information as possible about the events. Both organisations will be deploying additional staff to the town centre on Saturday and whilst respecting people’s right to protest peacefully, appropriate action will be taken to deal with any disorder.

So there's ur times and places
HOPE THIS HELPS

Hi, Rotherham fan here in peace.
I wouldn't worry about the EDL rally as they'll be a massive Police presence to deal with probably 150 demonstrators.
The ground is right at the side of the towns railway station & if you're coming from Sheffield you'll pass it just as the train is pulling up.
I hope you enjoy your visit (apart from the result of course). The stands are quite steep, but it does ebhance your view of the action. I would be interested to hear Shrimpers views of the ground after this weekends game.
We do sell alcohol in the away end, so if they do shut the pubs because of the demo, they'res always that option.
Most fans were angry about Evans' decision to release Ryan Cresswell this summer as he always puts in 100%, he's a good centre back & he's a Rotherham lad & a Millers fan. I'm really pleased that he's doing so well with you.
I hope you bring plenty of fans & you enjoy it. We're a friendly bunch!!
Ryan Cresswell has been great for us at both ends of the pitch,Our best player so far this season.Suprised you let him go.Looking forward too doing the new ground on saturday.
