Rush job

Surely after watching Acquah lumber about for God knows how long and Akinola struggling maybe, just maybe, let a young goals oding threat like young Mr Rush run his Bollardos off for 90, and perhaps give Terrell a few minutes too. Its like Mr Molesey doesn't have the ability to see what's wrong and change it. We're going down the sh**er so let's take a chance.
Put people on the pitch who care and ROLL THE DICE. In a situation like this we need to fight tooth and nail and grind out results, we won't play our way out of trouble.

Rush and halford up front. At least it would be something different. I fail to see how any player anywhere can be as invisible as goodship,
I think halfords awful tbh, well past it, but if we are going to play hoofball like last week then surely halford has more chance then holmes

I would rather continue with Acquah than entertain Halford starting. Each time Ricky Holmes starts he gets a bit fitter and I would much rather continue with him than others mentioned. By all means have Rush on the bench but it's too much pressure on the lad to start him, look what we've done to Emile's confidence.

Yeah im just grasping at poo covered straws.

Doesnt really matter who plays tbh.

I tend to agree, I also think Rush shouldn’t start, when I’ve seen him in the first team he has snatched at a couple of big chances when thru one on one.

cant believe I am saying this but better to stick with what we have, maybe put Rush or Coker on the bench

Are we allowed to pull players immediately from the under 23s with Covid rules or does there have to be an isolation period? Won't the under 23s have a separate bubble to the first team?

Don’t think so as Rusg I believe is playing for the 23’s and Tonbridge Angels on loan unless that has ended but not seen it posted on the official site that it has ended

***EDIT*** was a 4 week loan from early Jan so he is back, but am sure he played for both teams in that period

The kid had his chance he blew it! As I keep saying he can score in the 23s as it's his level! Some players arent good enough to step and when hes been asked to hes failed! He will end up playing for billericay along with isaac Hutchinson

As ever the truth is probably somewhere inbetween - at the moment. I don't think he is ready for 1st team football - but neither would I write him off to Billericay. Another year or 2 development and lets see.

Matt Rush has played 463 minutes of first team football, the equivalent of just over 5 matches. That really isn't giving someone a chance.

I mentioned in another thread, we're all desperate for goals so we'll look to anyone to be our saviour (a few weeks ago it was Goodship, before that it was Simpson, before that it was Ranger, before that it was Akinola; you get the drift). Realistically Matt probably isn't going to be able to do enough on his own, at his age, at his stage in his development, to keep us up on his own, but I'd like to see him get at least half-an-hour in the current side.

He's in form - 7 in 7 for the U23s (and 5 in his last 4 appearances), but you're right to say that isn't the same as first-team football. He gets into good areas and when he last had an opportunity in the first-team the service was even worse than it is now, so the likelihood is that he'll get more chances to score.

He's missed two decent opportunities that I would've expected him to score if it was an U23s game for the first-team, one at the end of last season from the edge of the penalty area where he dragged a shot wide and one this season in the home game against Forest Green when he turned his man brilliantly but then failed to test the goalkeeper with his shot. But if you can get him one goal in the first team, I think he'd then have more conviction and he might even go on a little run, which is more potential than I can see from our other forwards.

Another key point is that this season he's been playing as a lone forward for the U23s, so he's used to not having a lot of support and creating something from nothing (watch his goal against Dorking Wanderers, for example). He's a very intelligent footballer, and although it's a step up in strength it's one I think he can make (in time). I would want him to have some more support in the first team environment, even if that's just Akinola and RHF coming inside from out wide.
