Going on from Dts's thread about should Tramps smoke. This song and lyrics says so much I feel is a world wide problem.

I used to think this guy wrote great lyrics anyway not just from this song but so many more "Alone Again Naturally" being fantastic lyrics..But watching the Tv awards the other night...Richard Curtis ..(A top man in my opinion) mentioned these lyrics from way back...Always struck a cord with me.

I give you.. Nothing Rhymed. Gilbert O'Sullivan .and the following verse.

When I'm drinking my Bonaparte Shandy
Eating more than enough apple pies
Will I glance at my screen and see real human beings
Starve to death -
Right in front of my eyes.

Have you any that have stuck in your mind?

Of all I knew, her held too few.
And would you stop me, if I try to stop you.

Old songs stay 'til the end.
Sad songs remind me of friends.
And the way it is, I could leave it all
And I ask myself, would you care at all.

When I drive alone at night, I see the streetlights as fairgrounds
And I tried a hundred times to see the road signs as Day-Glo.

Old songs, stay till the end.
Sad songs, remind me of friends.
And the way it is, I could leave it all
And I ask myself, would you care at all.

Floyd's Time always gives a bit of a metaphorical kick up the @rse...

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an off-hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find that ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking
And racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or a half page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in a quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone the song is over, thought i'd something more to say

Genius...

Song: They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa!

Lyrics :

Remember when you ran away and I got on my knees and begged you not to
leave because I'd go berserk?? Well...
You left me anyhow and then the days got worse and worse and now you see
I've gone completely out of my mind.. And..
They're coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!
They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa
To the funny farm. Where life is beautiful all the time and I'll be
happy to see those nice young men in their clean white coats and they're
coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!!!!

You thought it was a joke and so you laughed, you laughed when I had said
that loosing you would make me flip my lid.. RIGHT???
I know you laughed, I heard you laugh, you laughed you laughed and
laughed and then you left, but now you know I'm utterly mad... And..

They're coming to take me away, ha-haaa,
They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa.
To the happy home. With trees and flowers and chirping birds and basket
weavers who sit and smile and twiddle their thumbs and toes and they're
coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!!

I cooked your food, I cleaned your house, and this is how you pay me back
for all my kind unselfish loving deeds.. Huh??
Well you just wait, they'll find you yet and when they do they'll put you
in the ASPCA, you mangy mutt!!! And...

They're coming to take me away, ha-haaa.
They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa.
To the funny farm, where life is beautiful all the time and I'll be happy
to see those nice young men in their clean white coats and they're coming
to take me away, ha-haaa!!!
To the happy home, with trees and flowers and chirping birds and basket
weavers who sit and smile and twiddle their thumbs and toes and they're
coming to take me away, ha-haa!!!
To the funny farm, where life is beautiful all the time... (fade out)

Hey, buddy!
Yes officer..
You a head?
No, but I'm catching up, ha ha ha....

This recent effort by Tom Mcrae (keep your picture clear) says a lot about certaing leaders in the west .

and a picture tells a thousand lies
Little dots in black and white.
You've no idea
The strongest will survive
But its the scum that always rises

So keep your picture clear
Keep your picture clear
Keep your picture clear

And you talk just like a diplomat,
But hide the gun behind your back
The leaders need a bloody war
Congratulations, this is yours
Looking through the history books
Of liars, cheats, and petty crooks

They'll print your picture clear
Print your picture clear
Keep your picture clear

Back in my younger days, in 1982, I loved this anti-Falklands song written by Elvis Costello, but performed superbly by Robert Wyatt. The song is Shipbuilding:

"Is it worth it
A new winter coat and shoes for the wife
And a bicycle on the boys birthday
Its just a rumour that was spread around town
By the women and children
Soon we'll be shipbuilding
Well I ask you
The boy said dad they're going to take me to task
But I'll be back by christmas
It's just a rumour that was spread around town
Somebody said that someone got filled in
For saying that people get killed in
The result of this shipbuilding
With all the will in the world
Diving for dear life
When we could be diving for pearls
Its just a rumour that was spread around town
A telegram or a picture postcard
Within weeks theyll be re-opening the shipyards
And notifying the next of kin
Once again
It's all were skilled in
We will be shipbuilding
With all the will in the world
Diving for dear life
When we could be diving for pearls"

In your northern slums, in your northern slums,
Your Mums on the game and your Dads in the nick,
You cant get a job cause your so ****ing thick,
In your northern slums, in your northern slums,

In your northern slums, in your northern slums,
You look in the dustbin for something to eat,
You find a dead cat and you think its a treat,
In your northern slums, in your northern slums,

In your northern slums, in your northern slums,
You **** in the shower and **** in the bath,
Your finger your Nan and you think its a laugh
In your northern slums, in your northern slums.

A terrace classic.
