Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-0 Stevenage

Great first 30 mins without getting the goal. Dropped off and let Stevenage into it after that but even if we'd kept it up I think we'd have been waiting until Christmas to score.

People can slate Molesley all they like, and I've no doubt there will be plenty of it on here this evening. But I think people just need to come to terms with the fact that our attacking qualities are non-league. We have nobody who can finish, nobody who can deliver a decent final ball or cross consistently, nobody who can move intelligently or attack the ball in the box, and nobody who can make intelligent runs off the ball. The quality just isn't there, the embargo wasn't lifted quickly enough to get that quality in and even when it was lifted, we've been turned into a basket case club so who would want to come here?

Yeah; that saved me saying the same.

For me we didn't really get going again after half time due to the injury stoppages, we had the better chances and should have scored.

Akinola was poor today and should have got a couple, Holmes should have done better at the end. The save from Ferguson's free kick was frustrating. On another day one of those chances goes in and we win the game.

We've not got a midweek game this week so should be able to keep the press up for longer on Saturday in a winnable game, we can still stay up and port vale are right in this fight now

A decent performance but unfortunately that’s nowhere near good enough at this stage of the season. We are completely devoid of any sort of goal threat. Dominated for the first half an hour yet didn’t really look like scoring apart from Ferguson’s free kick.

If we could add a goalscorer to this very solid defensive side we would easily stay up. But we can’t so we won’t.

So, that’s 5 games post FGR where we’ve failed to score. Frustrating, as we desperately need wins. MM started with a very positive line up, we had a few chances and were well on top for half hour or so, lots of energy, sadly we couldn’t sustain that intensity. Even the subs, Holmes and Goodship, Mellis.. the intent was to push forward and nick the win. As said elsewhere, we aren’t paying for these results we’re paying for the appalling start we had, pre-embargo lifting, when we couldn’t fill a bench or were sticking U23’s on the bench. MM has made us tough to beat and resilient but one thing will send us down...lack of goals. Pure and simple. We have 11 cup finals. And the lads need our support.

Montgomery 6
Bwomono 6
White 6
Hobson 6
Hart 6
Demetriou 5
McCormack 6
Ferguson 6
RHF 7
Dieng 7 MOTM
Akinola 5

Holmes 6
Mellis 5
Goodship 5

Tried hard, tired and faded but almost nicked it at the end. Deja vu really last few games. Appreciated the changes but still did not happen, lack of quality, pitch does not help. No standout performances. Now fear form pre embargo has given us too much to do, unless can nick a few wins, but to do that you need to put the ball in the net. A full weeks rest now. UTB

We are relegated as far as I'm concerned. Everything about this club has been rotten for a few years now, especially the running of the club which is down to Ron of course.
Late pre season
Embargo not lifted till December
Inexperienced manager getting absolutely the worst job in English football. Barely his fault but he has made 'rookie' mistakes and unfortunately this was not the season for that given he never had a chance anyway.
Watching that 2nd half...wow, absolutely the worst I've seen in 40 years.
National league club Southend United. Get used to it.
Gonna be some interesting away days next season.

Good first twenty five minutes then Stevenage came into it and we couldn't come back except for the last five minutes. We had several good chances including a brilliant free kick by Ferguson which was equally brilliantly saved by the loanee Chelsea keeper. We had 8 shots to their 7. It's actually a good point against a strong Stevenage side, but we needed a win. Just five points short of Port Vale now. We need Newport to beat them on Tuesday evening which they must be odds-on to do.

I thought Montgomery had an assured game. Although it was tense to watch they didn't really look any more likely to score than we did. Hobson and JW were strong at the back, Elvis was a little below his best, Hart was quite good going forward, Macca had a good first half, RHF put in some good crosses (he was actually playing in the correct position this time), Demi played quite well this time but finally grew frustrated, Ferguson played well and his excellent free kick should have opened the scoring for us and would have done nine out of ten times, Dieng won some headers upfront and certainly gave of his best. Akinola disappointed me. His body language was poor for much of the second half although he came back strongly in the final few minutes. Holmes really struggles with his fitness and he missed a very good chance right at the end.

its a challenge ... but one a talented manager could overcome

We are actually paying for the mismanagement of this club over the last three seasons.
