Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-0 Wrexham

This. Absolute ****ing disgrace. Fuming.

We deserved those three points as the big money superstars offered nothing. We played (and especially, defended) very well. For once we were getting corners into dangerous areas and heads on the ball. Finishing still a little off, but I’m quite encouraged overall.

Not sure why so many posters agree it was handball. Even under the new stupid rules about arms being in an unusual position, I don’t think it was handball.
Yeah agreed, grinding my gears seeing people say it was a handball. Game's gone if that's handball.

It is odd with Macclesfield playing in the FA Cup yesterday, but despite Savage’s involvement with Macc, it is widely known (clearly not as wide as I thought), that Savage is a big Wrexham fan; it is his hometown club.
Guessing that he is chummy with his fellow Five live contributor, Mr Brown who of course still has Southend connections through his wife.
I knew that, and it was my initial justification for him being there. But my brother's mate talked me out of thinking it was him. So I don't know. Brown was unmistakeable though.

Whenever I think of phil brown I think of promotion at wembley 2015, such a great season that was. A team full of players who never knew when they were Beaten.
I have that memory too, maybe my best memory of all SUFC games. I also have the memory of the Southend team that completely capitulated to Colchester Utd at the Airfix Stadium during our last season in the Football League. So, 'thanks' for that one as well Phil Brown.

Am not sure if this has been posted elsewhere, but it offers a different perspective on the chalked off goal.
The ref is immediately surrounded by Wrexham players, and it's THEN he decides to go over to the inert lino
Palmer is booked, but everyone crowds the two officials.
If it's offside as given, why in all that's holy does the lino never raise his flag until the ref points back to the infringement?
Having now seen the YouTube highlights I think this now about whether there was a second touch in the box.

I’m guessing the Lino hasn’t flagged initially as he thinks Hyde was onside when the initial ball was played. I can’t tell if Hobson gets a touch as it goes past him.

If he did, and if Hyde was offside at the time, but the Lino didn’t know about the touch until speaking to the ref then that’s the only justification I can see for changing the decision.

That's was shocking performance from us but let's be fair that team was so poor....... we could of had pep incharge and we would of still gone down. Phil brown management is probably outdated for today game.

Just seen the highlights. It's handball, it actually looks worse from that angle. The officials should have spotted it straight away and given Wrexham a free kick.

Brown at the Wrexham game, soon after Colchester sack their manager.
Coincidence or am I putting 1 and 1 together and getting 3 ?

Whats the link between Wrexham and colchester? I don't follow?
Brown probably dropped in while he was in the area. Maybe he has been lined up for a job interview at Colchester?
Could just be a coincidence that Colchester sack there manager after the Grimsby game. And Brown is in town.
Clubs on some occasions do line up replacements before the axing of current manager’s.

Tenuous.

More likely he was in town as his wife Is from Southend.

Yes, a sensible idea.
But then you have to ask if the lino thinks Hyde was onside when the initial ball is played, why not when he shoots?
Because Hyde takes no pace forward as he hits the ball.
If he's come back from an offside position, the goal is ruled out: the lino should raise his flag as the ball hits the back of the net.
If the ref is asking the lino for anything else, Mr Lino can't see it.
The ref was able to see any Ralph handball, so he doesn't need the lino's opinion.
In the end, the flag is raised for offside, which it clearly wasn't.
