Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-0 Wrexham

Engrossing game where we went toe to toe with the big spenders and dealt with them admirably. We certainly looked the more likely winners and Muliin and Palmer were kept quiet by our excellent defence. Apart from one curling shot from Palmer which Collin made his only one needed stretched save. Were Wrexham below par or were we that good? Probably somewhere in between, Wrexham will be top two again and I feel we are top 6/7. Just need to add goals now and again we did not get the decision from the ref on the disallowed goal. Comical incompetent chain of events that left everyone scratching their heads. Maybe controversial but with his deficiencies I thought we missed Powell’s energetic bursts up top to stretch their defence to create more space for Mooney etc. But I will take the solidity we had yesterday for the well earned and needed point.

Andeng Ndi 8
Hobson 9
Lopata 9 MOTM
Kensdale 8
Scott Morris 8
Miley 8
Husin 8.5
Ralph 8
Mooney 8.5
Dackers 8.5
Hyde 8

Wreh 7
Fonguck 6
Bridge 6

Difficult for MOTM no real standouts, lots of good performances, but Kacper gets my vote. This for the way he marshalled the defence and brought back the calmness to keep the clean sheet. UTB

Can anyone say why the ref walked over to the lino?
When the film footage cuts away to celebrating Blues, he's walking back up the pitch.
When it pans back, he's talking to the lino, who has yet to raise his flag.
Are they mic-ed up at this level? I don't think so.
So, was it Wrexham players insisting he went and consulted with the flag man?
From the west stand my view was that the lino briefly raised his flag as the ball was played forward by Ralph? towards Hyde. He put it down almost immediately - did anyone else see this? The ref gave the goal while all the Wrexham players started having a go at the lino and Palmer was booked for it. The ref then went to the lino and the rest we all know. All very strange....

If that is the case, then you can understand why their players all surrounded him. I guess we need some who were in the family stand at the end of the West to let us know.

Currently away so was unable to make the game but definitely sounded like we should have won comfortably. Just shows chucking money at a league is never always the best option.

Looking at our next 4 fixtures we face;

Wealdstone in 6th away from home but I'd like to think we feel pretty confident but will be a tough game for sure .

Yeovil in 19th at home who we really should beat and we would be disappointed not too

Then woking at home and Dagenham away. Again would be likely to drop points against Dagenham as per usual with that local derby crap they push. Atleast we will give them there biggest home attendance of the season. Probably be more blues fans there than there's.

Here's to hopefully 9 points out of the next 12

We're getting a good squad playing some nice football that will surely go up the table towards the play offs. Chillingly, right now we're level on points with Aldershot. Can't believe that will be anywhere close to the case come Christmas (barring yet more injuries). Interesting that Cardwell was running before the game which I guess means Dackers goes back at the end of his loan. No sign of Murphy returning so assume he's still some way off.

Wonder if we might get the opportunity to send back Cosgrave, and keep Dackers?

Based on the quality of Dackers, I was really impressed with him for the first half in particular yesterday, part two of the above statement might not be possible.

Dackers, Wreh, Cardwell, Hyde and maybe Murphy would be a very nicely balanced choice of options.

Anyone have an answer to a point I made in my original match post - was that really Phil Brown with Robbie Savage sitting at the end of the East Blues, and if so, what on earth were they doing there?
It is odd with Macclesfield playing in the FA Cup yesterday, but despite Savage’s involvement with Macc, it is widely known (clearly not as wide as I thought), that Savage is a big Wrexham fan; it is his hometown club.
Guessing that he is chummy with his fellow Five live contributor, Mr Brown who of course still has Southend connections through his wife.

Am not sure if this has been posted elsewhere, but it offers a different perspective on the chalked off goal.
The ref is immediately surrounded by Wrexham players, and it's THEN he decides to go over to the inert lino
Palmer is booked, but everyone crowds the two officials.
If it's offside as given, why in all that's holy does the lino never raise his flag until the ref points back to the infringement?

PS. Tozer still has a pop at the lino even after the decision has gone his way.

Decent point, but should have been 3. Made Wrexham look ordinary, but the lack of goals continues to be our problem. Could and should have had 6 points from Chesterfield and Wrexham, we've ended up with 1.

As for the 'offside' goal, it's a joke. Officials were persuaded to change their decision, absolutely unbelievable. Wrexham have got the money and the officials too. 🙄

Yes well done for the minutes silence but don't make excuses for them. This was not a rugby international, the anthem was part of the commemoration.

By the way there was not a single Wrexham fan who has ever been 'oppressed' by the English. Still if you learn a language so that you can speak to less people, I can see why you would feel that way. :Winking:

Please note this a Sunday morning joke so don't answer with any politics.
Think you'll find it's fewer people.People are countable after all. :Winking:
