Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-0 Wrexham

As we have made our point about the ref, how about the game.

Biggest plus point was the work rate and response after Kevs outburst. Unlike some on here the players didn't run for their safe space. Hyde, Ralph and Noor proved Kev right. I have been watching Fonguck with growing suspicion, he was starting to look like Noor at the end of last season. For Noor to come in for his first game v Wreham that was a great performance as our set up means the two CM's have to be at least a 7 every game.

Indidvidually the award goes to Kasper. There are free headers for CB's then there are he beat Goodship in the air type headers. Then there are the ones I call battling headers. Climbing over the their target men, wining them and not letting people on £4,500 per week have an easy day. Kasper was excellent in the first 30 mins so Mullin and Palmer never got into the game. A perfect example of the leader at the back who inspires others. Kev accused some of hiding on Tuesday...Kasper enjoys hunting.

Agree with Barry Silkman about Dackers and Hyde. It was their first game together but they are both number 9's so not used to working off another players flick. Thats not a criticism, they both done well. Dackers was in good positions twice in the first few minutes but like the rest of the game we did not cross it early enough or good enough. Right near the end Dackers won a great flick but we hadn't reacted before the touch. We have a good option so use it and believe in it.

Colin made a save that other keepers may not have. Wrexham tried their best but he is confident has good feet and save hands. Others have either not come or flapped. For those that think he needs to be in the Isthmian league on loan.....I think Chesterfield might take him.

Yes it was only a point on paper but those of us who were there know it was more than that....Remember it was only a point at Bromley on Boxing day but that proved to be one of the most important in Kevs career so far. Lets see what happens next.

Exactly, let’s see what happens next, we just need to get the points we deserve then push on with that winning mentality and when our injured players are back!! Time is still very much on our side.

We’ve got some good players in this squad, we totally matched the favourites yesterday and thats without our 1st choice keeper and a new strike force

Nicely put as always.

Agree that’s it criminal not to expect Dackers to win those flicks, and not make the run.

Couple of bits to add…..

To be fair Fonguck did well when he came on as he was able to get around and continue the press we had implemented so well throughout the game - but that the point, he came on with fresh legs and I see this as his job now that Husin seems to be back with a bang.

Lopata was excellent, so calming and authoritative…… but good god Hobson was immaculate yesterday.

I’ve been a big critic of Shaun previously , seeing him as the wink link, an accident waiting to happen, but I am eating my words - he was sooo good yesterday, along with Lopata, they didn’t let moneybags palmer (or Mullin) get hold of the game up top. We bossed it in the air and between them they won virtually every header they needed to.

Top marks.

Yes I should have mentioned Shaun, He always struck me as a confidence player which has steadily improved and will hopefully go to the next step with leaders around him.

One more point fair play to Wrexham. Worked hard and pressed a lot. More importantly another club who want to get on with the game of Football. Not wasting 10mins per half and physical without Boreham Wood type studs up tackles and neither team rolling around on the floor means it was as good as 0-0 can be....I may even pay them the honour of a visit next March

Anyone have an answer to a point I made in my original match post - was that really Phil Brown with Robbie Savage sitting at the end of the East Blues, and if so, what on earth were they doing there?

Another noticeable thing about Wrexham was that they didn’t have any big old lumps in their side. There’s some right old lard arses in this league who just kick lumps out of the opposition and constantly hold it up rolling around on the deck.

Most said time flew by yesterday. Damning indictment for 75% of teams in this league that are hell bent on spoiling games as they don’t have the ability to apply quality to a whole 90 minutes like both teams did yesterday.

Problem is, we don’t know how to spoil games like that, or maybe we don’t want to, but we need to add it to our game because the standard of reffing let’s you get away with it and that won’t change.

The worst thing for me about that video is seeing the ref blow his whistle and then seeing the lino put his flag up. If it was offside why didn’t he flag at the time?! Oh and it also wasn’t offside. ****ing shambolic. Almost like they were scared of Wrexham’s money and how many followers Ryan Reynolds has on Twitter.
Interesting.
It makes you wonder whether Wealdstone or Maidenhead would have got the same decision?

Palmer is deffo a big lump, not so old, but deffo a big lump.

After a 10 hour drive down from Scotland on Friday it was great to get back to Roots Hall to see the game yesterday, just sitting in the South Upper brought back many memories and just reignited the love I have for the Shrimpers.
Great game and good to see our players "wanting it" we should have won if it had not been for the pathetic linesman and very poor I'm the boss referee.
I think I witnessed the start of a very good Southend team/squad and I believe we will start to move up the league now........
I have to say I was impressed with our goal keeper he played really well and one amazing save, yes room for improvement but that will come with more games.
Will do the 10 hour drive back tomorrow feeling very happy having I think witnessed the start of a new chapter in SUFC........

Good timing on your point. Strongest 11 (arguably) bar Arnold as well as a very solid bench for the first time in years.

There has been some negative comments/posts in the last week over Maher and the management teams ability to do the job. I thought they were extremely harsh. Yes, the points return isn't what we wanted so far, but it's clear as day that we are a much better side than last season. A much better watch than last season and have players who have joined the club that fit in with a style of play and system in mind.

The performances won't always reflect the results as we continue to grow and that's something some may find hard to accept. Under Maher (who will also learn and improve) I think we can be optimistic about the direction we are heading, it just might require some patience before this team really clicks and the consistency of the results match the consistency of performances.

That info might have spread from me. They were sitting 4 or 5 rows in front of me in East Stand Block A, and I sent a few messages out in the first few minutes telling a few people. In the end, I'm not convinced that it was Robbie Savage. Might have been someone who just looked like him but can't be sure.

What they were doing there, I've no idea. I hope it was nothing nefarious. Can't see why anybody would be idiotic enough to employ him back here, even Ron Martin and even if Kev were under pressure (which he shouldn't be). They left 5-10 mins before the end though.

Was it definitely Brown though?
