Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-0 Wrexham

I thought we were excellent today.
Really chuffed to see Ralph back, who is light years ahead of Clifford!

We looked so much better in the middle with Husin, who was constantly nipping at the Wrexham players along with Miley.

We looked like a decent, solid side today, were the better team (marginally) and very unlucky not to take the 3 points. Wrexham will be very, very happy with a point and know they’ve got away with one.

Never thought I’d say this but Hobson was man of the match for me, handled Palmer with ease and won most of his headers.

I thought dackers was good and hyde got in some decent positions but I'm sorry wreh is better then both and showed what he can do in the 10 mins he was on! Hes strong creative and a very intelligent player.oozes class.

It was disallowed for offside which the Lino did not signal until after the event and when Wrexham's players tore him a new one. It seems, under current rules, a lino will not signal for offside until after the move has finished. I may have misunderstood that explanation, but I think it's what Paul Clark and then Maher said on the radio. Even so the lino in front of the West was probably the most hated man in the Kingdom for a period of time.
The move finished when the ball went in the back of the net. Then is when the lino puts his flag up, not 3 mins later when the Wrexham players have pressured you into changing a decision you didn't see

I heard Paul Clark on the radio, and honestly I think he just doesn't understand the new offside law.

The play is over once the goal is scored, there's nothing stopping the linesman from flagging immediately. In fact, I'm pretty sure the 'don't flag until play is over' rule only even exists when VAR is in use, so that you allow VAR to correct the decision in case you were wrong. In matches without VAR, linesmen only have to wait for the player to touch the ball.

Our midfield and defence is probably some of the best in the league, if only we had a 30+ goalscorer, we would be in league one with this squad by now. Great bounce back from Tuesday night and you cannot fault any of our players today, I forgot how immense Lopata was, including all our defence.

A thoroughly absorbing game where time just flew by. When you look at sides like Wrexham, they have players that look balanced and totally comfortable on the ball, and they work as a unit. Wrexham looked all of those things to begin with but so did Southend Utd.

I'm not sure if it was the bollocking administered by Maher after Tuesday's game or whether it was down to the changes in the team selection, but we went toe to toe with one of the League favourites and made them look ordinary at times. Our back line looks very good now with the big pole dictating shape and movement and the others working seamlessly as a unit (Hobson just gets better and better). With the return of Husin we had bite and vision and it complimented Miley very well. The masterstroke for me was Hyde and Dackers up front. They both ran their dodahs off, especially Dackers, and never gave the Wrexham defence a minute's rest. Dackers, especially showed ball control on the ground which was pretty good for someone as tall as baby giraffe.

And underpinning all that was Mooney. That lad is a special talent and when he finally adds consistency to that talent we will have a cracking player and a very sellable asset all in one. I said earlier that Wrexham panicked every time he got the ball, and boy did they.

We ended up with one point, we deserved all three but that's the way it goes. Did Wrexham live up to all the hype? nope. Did we **** off Parkinson and the Wrexham crowd? I sincerely hope so, can we replicate this performance against Wealdstone? I also sincerely hope so.

Finally an opinion on Maher and co -They assessed Tuesday, reacted in exactly the right fashion and put out a team that we were all proud of today. Take note all you 'Maher out' merchants.

Yes, as per #50.

Probably the performance I've enjoyed the most this season when you consider the wages of their front two, would probably pay 8 of our starting 11.

Big mention to Kacper who was great.

Hobson was immense.

Noor was brilliant.

Miley might be one of our most astute signings in recent memory.

Thought we looked far more composed as a team without Powell in the starting 11.

I think if we had another cm on the bench today to freshen it up we might have nicked it.

Lineman on the West stand side was one of the worst I've ever seen.

From the Wrexham forum:

Referee was absolutely shocking especially for Southend where he missed a number of fouls we committed, I think we ‘got away with one’ for the disallowed goal but need to see it again

Indeed, they've faced 4 of the top 5 sides. Lost by 1 goal to 2 and drew with the others.

I think they'll mount a play-off challenge

It was pretty obvious that some of the Wrexham supporters were going to disregard or interrupt the National Anthem. In the event, it didn't matter as the Southend crowd and the majority of the Wrexham supporters sang the National Anthem loud and proud or just stayed quiet, their choice.

To start lobbing abuse now at their Fans Board would just be coming down to the level of their fans that were gobby. Time to move on in the knowledge the Southend fans did their bit incredibly well.

The Wrexham fans observed the minutes silence and I didn’t think they were that gobby at all .. they took more from our fans than they dished out in my view.

I don't think I said they didn't observe the minute's silence, they did impeccably, I was referring to those that attempted to interrupt the National anthem.
