Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-0 Wrexham

It was disallowed for offside which the Lino did not signal until after the event and when Wrexham's players tore him a new one. It seems, under current rules, a lino will not signal for offside until after the move has finished. I may have misunderstood that explanation, but I think it's what Paul Clark and then Maher said on the radio. Even so the lino in front of the West was probably the most hated man in the Kingdom for a period of time.
is this not just for var though?

As the ball is played in to Dackers he has one arm up and the ball appears to hit his side under his arm and deflects up onto his arm. Three of the Wrexham players put their arms up appealing for hand ball. Hyde receives the ball, turns, and places the ball into the net. Goal given by the ref, Southend players all celebrate and run over to the East Stand, stadium announcer says Hyde scores and he is sponsored by ShrimperZone!

Wrexham players protest and run over to Lino on the West Stand, ref walks over, long discussion and eventually disallows the goal. What he actually disallowed the goal for is any ones guess, Parkinson says handball Maher says offside,

The real reason, the Lino and the Referee Aaron Bannister are both incompetent cheats.

Don’t know what the issue was with the officials. They got the big decisions right. Goalkeepers should not seek to gain an advantage by taking goal kicks too far forward.

Other than that, the 3 that came in added loads. And kasper is that centre back we’ve been missing, that wants to head the ball. 10 minutes in there was a cross which 3 weeks ago would have been 0-1. He threw himself in.

Liked the forwards. And Noor was so good that Miley had less involvement than usual.

I wouldn’t say cheats. Indeed we have had many utter woeful officials and they have been equally so for both sides. I would say weak beyond all weakness, pitiful beyond all pity. But in the end it comes to the administrators who clearly have no idea how to raise standards to the level demanded by a professional level of sport. The officials then become in a way victims to…

can't remember the last England game when the England fans haven't booed the opponents anthem
This is fair enough, and part of the problem IMO. It’s the UK anthem, not the England anthem - we should have something else I think and save God Save the King for British or UK events (or double up for all the home nations like the Irish rugby team do - although it would be tricky to implement that straight away from the current arrangements).

I haven’t posted for a while….don’t know why but after todays match….

Firstly what a great performance by Blues against a purportedly top side, who failed to impress me. Our work rate and defence were superb today and you can really see the work Maher and Co are doing on the training ground. The organisation and fitness and intensity is the best it has been in years. We are still lacking that killer instinct in front of goal, but clearly had enough today to win the match.

Now the officials. We have all seen that following our relegation to non league the standard of officiating is far worse then in the football league but todays performance was probably the worst I can recall for several years. For me it all started when he booked Mooney, a poor decision and you could see he was trying to exert some kind of misguided authority on the game. I don’t know the history of the guy, but has he officiated many games of 6,000 plus crowds?

He seemed to be reacting to the hostile atmosphere from early poor decision making, by making a point time and time again. The utter ridiculousness of making Colin retake the goal kick again and again because the ball was a cm over the line but then missing the most obvious pull back on Dackers and a certain yellow card that we were not even awarded a foul for, was some of the poorest decisions I have seen in recent years. Then to the goal, how can you award a goal and then disallow it only after the assistant has been surrounded by Wrexham players. You have booked Palmer and then the assistant has clearly told the Wrexham players in his opinion it wasn’t a goal. the communication back to Maher and Co via the 4th official is a handball and then the assistant referee puts his flag up. A complete ****ing joke. Why did he not put his flag up straight away!!

I know as a home fan it’s easy to think of bias and why do we not get the rub of the green but the officiating was awful. Surely someone must review their performance and strike them off from being allowed to referee another National League fixture this season?

Back to officiating Concord Rangers Under 12’s…..just such an inept performance…total embarrassment!
The Eastleigh ref was worse!

Every throw in the player gains at least 10m and they don’t care, and then they time waste to get a goalkeepers free kick that’s going to travel 50m retaken because it was 4cm to far forward… the Mooney shirt pull…the offside…however agree with the rest. Husin got some bit and aggressive to go with the skills.

Shocking can we appeal this and receive the 3 points please.

Ps great view of the Mighty Southend Support from East to West stands

I thought Lopata was our very own Vrgil van dijk....mopped up everything!
Wiggly agree. As a previous poster eluded to Lopata appears to have bulked up a bit since he last was with us. He really is a top quality defender. Far too good for this league how lucky are we to have him on a longish contract.

Come on!! Since the beginning of time the Ref's have always made mistakes. Over the years it has always balanc3d out. To read the comments on here we would be top of League 1 without biased Ref's. They are not the reason we are where we are, bemoaning our shameful position in the National League!!
We are where are for a reason! I get that and don't follow this big club bollocks.
The officials in this league are the worst and I've seen! better Sunday league refs !

Yes apart from our winning goal they got everything right.

Colin stole 3cm twice in a row, lets hope FIFA clamp down on that in the next WC. Much rather he wastes 1minute every kick like the Torquay keeper.

Mooney was booked for not wasting enough time at a point where the last thing needed was a yellow because both teams where getting on with a proper game of footy. Don't mention the only real foul on Mooney on the edge of our box... If you do you might forget about a clear handball down the other end in the same move.

Who in the ground didn't see Dackers having his shirt pulled just before half time.....Only 3 people it seems. My mother with dementia would know thats a foul, even though she would forget about it 10 seconds later.

Then we made history. The first ground in the NL to have VAR...Without the benefit of VAR. The clue is in the body language. Wrexham don't appeal as he scores and most of them head towards the lino with no conviction because they know its a goal.

I don't moan to much about officials but they clearly didn't see it so cant give it.....Its the golden rule of reffing

Ref's signals indicate it was given as offside not handball

It has definately been disallowed for offside.

The ref raises his arm to signal an indirect frekick award as the result of an offside, the asisstant also raises his flag and points across the pitch to show the position of the offside. If he had given handball he would have pointed towards our goal to signal a direct freekick offence had taken place and the assistant would have pointed his flag likewise.

If they are trying to claim it was for handball then they are lying cheats, if it's for offside they are incompetent

I can live with mistakes. Woeful officials have done so for both sides on numerous occasions….we live with it as does everyone else. This wasn’t a mistake. It was weak officials being bullied into changing their decision. This is where I have a problem…
