Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0 - 1 Barnet

Im still seeing this season really as build up to a proper go at promotion next season, assuming we can get out of the embargo and be able to strangthen where needed. It would be a bonus to be in the play-offs this season but I honestly can't see us getting past either Wrexham or Notts County. Get those two out of the way and its a very open field next season where any of probably 7 or 8 clubs could win the league including us.
Hopefully with 3 up get the green light for next season.

Looks a definite red to me. Blondy could have done better for the goal - shame as he had a really good game otherwise.

Seeing the incidents again, I’m strengthening my position that:

A) it’s a stone wall red card. The chasing pack of Barnet players bunch together and continue their runs back to goal, after the foul happens, which could give the appearance that their guy wasn’t the final man, or it wasn’t a goal scoring opportunity.

But at the point of contact, Sandat has nobody in front of him and is a split second away from taking a shot. That is, unquestionably, a goal scoring opportunity and for that reason alone, it should have been a straight red.

B) Blondy did well with the 1-on-1 saves. He gets his positioning spot on and that’s all you can ask in those situations. Thankfully, the shots came straight at him, which is poor finishing.

The shot he blunders is just another addition to his catalogue of horrors though. It’s a side foot pass from 20-22 yards away, with very little pace or ferocity on it.

Barnet did the job they came to do. Well drilled and closed us down within moments. We however were working hard as usual but I felt a few were not at the races. Will they please stop doing the extra, unnecessary balls out wide even when it opens up in the middle! What were high crosses going to do last night in the Land of the Giants? We have good players but, so often, they are not expressing themselves correctly. There mistake possibly but I expect it's from instruction. The opposition seem to do their homework better than we do.

Amazing to think if Powell was the penalty taker, he’d be by far the leading goal scorer. And before anyone says it, assuming they went in of course. And before anyone says it, I know it’s no guarantee he’d score.

Midweek showed promise then downhill fast to a messy weekend and dropped to 9th.
big positive response needed for tuesday.

We can't be relying on other teams to do us favours. It was in our hands last night and we didn't deliver unfortunately. Not scoring goals was always going to potentially stop us going up this season. It's a huge ask to expect to get promoted when we only have a solid defense but no attack to speak of. Nothing is over yet, but all the teams around us have goalscorers in their teams.

Hoping kev gets brave Tuesday and throws cardwell and Steeeeve and Ralph in for 45mins
Feel it's time to be adventurous rather than defensive with choices. If we drop back too far we lose touch. Also feel it may be worth JD being on the pitch. Desperately lacking experienced guidance on the pitch.

can’t believe all our PO rivals won away from home ( with the exception of Bromley - bloody Notts County call yourself best team in the league?!? 😡😂)

Couldn't agree more. It is not helpful in any way especially as he usually isn't even at the games!

We have done it in plenty of games that we have won and even scored in one game while the banner was on the side of the pitch.

The players completely understand the level of hatred at our supposed owner.

They also received excellent support.

I won't stop anytime soon.

8th actually and it is still in our hands. We simply have to start beating sides around us. Obviously Wrexham will be difficult but even there I fancy a 1-1. We need to get at least Cardwell back this week and if we can get back to our October form there is no reason why we shouldn’t pick up 4 points from Chesterfield and Boreham Wood.
After Tuesday it is 4 games left at home and 8 away, which is no bad thing. I think the pressure will be a lot less on the road.
Last night was really tense and the high level of expectancy worked against us (plus the Lopata episode).
Let us just aim for the play-offs, even if it is only in 7th place.

Barnet fan here who was at the game. Read a lot of comments on here not overly positive about our style. The interesting thing about our manager is he changes our system and style depending on the opposition. Today he bought in Diarra, big lad in midfield and put our Captain Gorman on the bench. We played 4 at the back usually a 3 so we didn't play our usual football at the back. Credit to us we came and adapted to play you. Yes we were touch tight and niggly, physical but we are able to match a team in a fight. We bought on Gorman last 25mins started playing more offensively.

You played some nice football but it felt like you wanted to walk it in. Some of your players are a bit tarty! The little body builder guy was useless up front. Way too many flicks from your lot. Hardly any crosses although you didn't have much to aim at.

The lad who had a chance in on goal before beard pulled him down should of powered on but slowed and dithered.

Jake Hyde wasn't the answer for us 8 years ago so he's not what you need.

Overall I would of taken a point but I think we edged it.

Great atmosphere, best of luck with that prick you have in charge. Fairplay to one of your fans who actually shook my hand whilst I was sitting in traffic wished me and my lad a safe journey back.
Your lot resembled a basketball team. Are any under 6’ 2? Good wrestlers too, not that any of the officials noticed.

Personally thought we were by far the better (footballing) side, but you had 12 men on the pitch, when really you should have had 10 for most of the game.

PS: Great atmosphere, welcome to Roots Hall, the magnificent Blue Voice. (Love that Barnet only have one chant… Come ON Bar-Net!) Lol
Good luck for the rest of the season BTW 😁

No goalkeeper, no Lopata, no forwards , no game plan other than Bridge that now has two on him!
Should have been secured already, play offs now must be decent odds against?
