Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-2 York City 5th Round ISUZU FA Trophy

Start of the season I’d have thought progression in this competition was low on the priority list for Kev and co. That said, given the teams still in the competition, it presented a real opportunity for a Wembley appearance which would have been a nice way to end the season for players, coaching staff and fans alike after yet another woeful season behind the scenes.

No point dwelling on today though, second best all over the park. On to Tuesday.

Maher made the right call and made changes in a meaningless cup game. Why would he and the players be bothered about a big pay day at Wembley when wages aren't forthcoming. The bigger picture football wise is the league and those that attended got nothing in return. Ho hum.

RMs ineffectual running of the club continues and he isn't confident of the clubs safe future.

Didn’t deserve to go through. Can criticise the changes but apparently Cardwell has been struggling with his foot injury to get through games in which case resting him was absolutely the thing to do.
Gus and Jack in hindsight could have started assuming no need to rest them but of course Gus has only just come back
The number of games we have we have to rotate and the team we put out was much better than the performance…

Bollocks.

A day out at Wembley would be a big pay day for the club. It would give us confidence, momentum and money.

If Maher wanted to make changes and freshen things up he should have put Collin in goal (even half fit that represents a massive upgrade), he should’ve rested Hyde who seems semi-retired and shouldn’t be playing twice a week and rested Miley who’s played every minute this season instead of playing a second defensive midfielder in front of a back five.

Bah Humbug. - anyone else think York looked like humbugs in that strip.

Well - all predictable - we make 4 changes - just the incentive York needed. We were completely ineffectual - Powell, Funguck and Hyde especially and even I now think Demi is too slow for this league against the teams of sprinters.

Should have been at least 3 down at the break - if we were serious Bridge and Cardwell should have been on at half time.

Shame Lopata crashed into the post- they headed the corner in unchallenged any way.

And another completely weak ref who let them get away with virtually everything - got his card out an hour too late - doesn’t anyone punish deliberately kicking the ball away any more and how many fouls for persistent fouling? York seemed content to run straight into us any got away with it.

At least I managed to get to Central station in time for the 17.18 so I should get home by 8pm.
Their captain's yellow should've been his third or fourth! He wouldn't have been on the pitch to score their second😡

I was not confident as soon as I saw the four team changes that weaken us in a big way.

Some decent saves from Blondy along with the normal erratic kicking but was at fault in conceding the corner for the crucial first goal and in truth I never felt we were going to equalise.

With those left in the competition it really feels like a missed opportunity but on the plus side now looking forward to Wrexham away on the 11th HMRC permitting.

Am confused!
Blondy stopped us getting beat 4-0 in the match thread; post match, he was pants!
Which is true?
Kept us in it in the first half - usual rush of blood racing out and not getting there for the injury to Lopata clearing up which led to the corner which was headed in.

He made two good saves in the first half but he came off his line early in the second half and did not get there in time resulting in Lopata getting injured on the post then they score the crucial first from the resulting corner. Also involved in some confusion in the build up to the penalty although redeemed himself that time by saving it.

He may be a good keeper at some stage but for now just makes too many mistakes so for me we desperately need Colin or Arnold back soon as possible

Have to disagree because a trip to Wembley for us right now means far more then a few extra quid although the extra cash would definitely help.
