Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-2 York City 5th Round ISUZU FA Trophy

I was quite honestly without words after today's performance, so I'll proceed to write a paragraph. 😂 The only one to come away with his head held high is Harry Taylor who bailed out his sub-par teammates time and time again.

Looked like there was no motivation out there. To an extent, you can't blame the players but if we are to compare them to Tuesday, it was turgid.

Jake Hyde was a massive part of our problems. Showed no willingness to move and create space for his teammates. Once Bridge came on, space opened up behind the full-back in the channel. Hyde seemed to flat out refuse to exploit this room and instead went about falling over, wasting possession and complaining.

Bollocks.

A day out at Wembley would be a big pay day for the club. It would give us confidence, momentum and money.

If Maher wanted to make changes and freshen things up he should have put Collin in goal (even half fit that represents a massive upgrade), he should’ve rested Hyde who seems semi-retired and shouldn’t be playing twice a week and rested Miley who’s played every minute this season instead of playing a second defensive midfielder in front of a back five.

The side Maher put out today speaks volumes. If you, or anyone else can't see that, then thats on you. The league is the priority and with the amount of cancellations staking up and 2 games a week, taking a small hit by going out of the NL version of the JPT, then its not the end of the world as there are certainly many more important things at stake.

I can see Maher conceded with less dignity than when we withdrew from the Essex Senior Cup but if he wants a cash injection the best route was via a trip to Wembley in the Trophy.

We could afford a league loss (loads of games to catch up) much more easily than we could afford a cup exit.

I was personally looking forward to a day at Wembley. I really can’t see the logic of changing a winning team or resting a player who’s confidence is growing by the match. That’s not always prudent that’s risking momentum getting lost. Anyway .. just my thoughts!

I wouldn't worry too much at a loss of a Wembley visit. I am sure over the coming years we will have many opportunities to get to the Trophy final.....

My MOTM was Blondy (rigsby please note). Two great saves and a very brave headed challenge at the edge of the box in the first half. He was left exposed when their lobbed effort was eventually cleared by Lopata. I'm afraid the Hobson Demetriou channel up the right is a waste of time and whilst Jack injected some dynamism when he first came on, York got on his case very quickly. Powell was ineffective and I was unsure why he played up front with Hyde behind him. So the changed team as a whole just didn't work and looked pretty pedestrian BUT we have a further two games this week and I have no doubt that the criticisms would be flying if Jack, Harry, Noor or Gus, picked up an injury today, threatening our (much more important) league battle. To put it in manager speak, a bad day at the office in a game of two halves where I thought we shaded periods of the game but didn't get the rub of the green and ultimately we came up short, which we will learn from and the boys will move forward to concentrate on Tuesday's clash. COYB

Blondy was our man of the match. Certainly not his fault that we allow fee headers from corners in areas Harry C normally defends. If he is not on the pitch then someone else should be doing that job.

With no West stand open and our team selection means 2 advantages to York before a ball is kicked. Then we don't manage a shot on goal. Even when Harry did come on we didn't supply one decent ball up to him, let alone a cross.

Bad day all round and puts us under more pressure on Tuesday. The only consolation is Wrexham will be on a Saturday.

Bad day at the office. A frustrating, disjointed and lacklustre performance. Deserved nothing and got nothing. All those that came into the side should have been pushing for a start tuesday but other than Taylor, Wes, Hyde, JD and Powell were awful and offered little

Blondy kept us in it first half with possibly his best half in a Southend shirt. second half he looked like the old Blondy and arguably two mistakes led to their two goals, not directly but contributed to.

could see what a miss Cardwell, Gus, Husin and Bridge were today

so disappointing as a genuine chance to get to Wembley missed. League the priority and got to hope Kev can the lift the team for Tuesday. Hoping also they might be paid by then

Fully understand why Kev made changes to the team if he doesn't know now we are so reliant on Bridge. We didnt have any link up play and generally lacked penetration all very dissapointing.

Fingers crossed Lapata is ok for Tuesday
