A return to winning ways and a clean sheet but certainly sounds like we were hanging on towards the end.

Millwall, Oxford or Yeovil in the area semi-final, draw will be made on Saturday on Soccer AM.

At the end of the day we've got to beat 2 of those teams to make it to Wembley so I'm not to fused who we get next.

Deary me. What a toothless performance. Midfield was non-existent, defence showed gaps (not helped by the lack of midfield cover), and going forward we looked about as threatening as a new born lamb. Mooney offers very little, as does Hurst who is a shadow of his former self. Payne ran around a lot but offered little in terms of an effective outlet.

Worrall showed some endeavour and skill. Bentley easily the MOTM, making 4 excellent stops in the second half.

Very very poor, and, albeit a much changed side, a worrying performance against a league two team.

Come on we won....why worry. Squad players got a run around and we moved closer to Wembley...again

Listened to Brown on the radio on the way home. He did not mention attacking play (well lack of) once. All he could say is we defended well and he likes 1-0's. In what way did we defend well, we were carved open time and time again. I know some smart Alec will say we didn't concede but against better opposition we will and we have. He states he doesn't tell the team to sit back then he says he likes 1-0 wins, contradictory much. He said how good rovers were but we made them look good by sitting so deep... as usual. Oh sorry I nearly forgot, he said the word 'mentality' four times too.

This was a strange performance with a few good things and possibly more unsettling also in many ways.
The good was the general work from the back four and Dan, Thommo and Adam looked as if they have a good understanding and Cokes was back to his usual high octane standard, Captain JW popped up at the far post for a rare goal and also had an all round 8/10 game.
The midfield? strange and uncertain of their positions and team mates; Lenny was the pick of them, Wozza the most dangerous, Atko the most frustrating. Kevan drifted in and out of the game - but great cross for the goal.
Mooney is NOT the player to lead the front, him and Jack didn't link well, but Jack did work blooming hard.

Good ref, felt we were very lucky to have their goal ruled offside, after the officials talked it over.

Good 3500 crowd and great work by TBV.

Mr Brown? gave the East greens some odd looks & appeared unsure of who/when to do do subs and the bench didn't have on it what he needed - (in no order) either Tims, Deegs, Rea, Words, Westy or Mac would have been called into action if available.

Home draw please!

Match report: Southend United 1, Bristol Rovers 0

JOHN White’s second goal in 12 years saw Southend United move to within two rounds of Wembley with a 1-0 win against Bristol Rovers at Roots Hall last night.

not sure as a load of us paid cash on the turnstile in the West - no ticket, 100% profit trousered by RM (don't tell the taxman)

There was indeed a few of us who paid cash directly without it being registered or a ticket issued but, I suppose they needed to do something seeing as there was a long queue forming down Shakespere Drive

It's always pleasing to get a result in any match, but make no mistake we should not have won tonight.

It was the same old story. Go 1-0 up and then sit back. Last year we got away with it against league two opposition.

Tonight we played league two opposition and we got away with it.

Ffs sake PB. Attack is the best for of defence.

Bentley easily man of the match. 3 or 4 top saves

If they had a striker who could score the would and could have scored 3 or more. Very lucky with the offside decision.

Tonight highlighted to me that we very much need to bring in one or two attack minded players.

Hurst is way past his sell buy date and Atkinson and Payne will probably only ever get starts due to injuries.

Pleased to see AB and Thompson out there. Both looked rusty but made up for it with commitment.

Midfield was so loose and lacked any real creativity. Mooney worked hard but is not the answer up top.

Please PB bring in someone with pace to burn and an eye for goal. Someone in the wayne gray mould would be a huge asset to the team.

TBV were quality again tonight

First 15-20 minutes threatened quite an entertaining game, very open, and Blues were playing a pretty fluid front 4 with Payne playing just behind the front 3. Rest of the game was pretty flat and low on quality but Blues played with good intentions. That said we had to rely on Bentley to win us the game, as we looked disorganised in defence.

Bentley - 8 MOM - Made a number of quality saves to effectively win us the game.
White - 6.5 - Solid enough, bonus half pt for a collectors item goal.
Coker - 6.5 - Not his greatest game but still decent.
Thompson - 5 - Struggled to keep up after such a long time out, should have been subbed near the end as he was knackered.
Barrett - 7 - Fully committed and handled Easter well. Should start with Bolger on saturday.
Leonard - 6 - ok
Atkinson - 6.5 - Energetic and drove forward out of defence several times.
Payne - 6 - Drifted in & out of the game, caused Bristol some problems.
Hurst - 5 - Passed a chance near the end that 2 years ago he'd have smashed into the net. Time to get rid.
Worrall - 7 - Ran at defenders, our main threat, must start saturday.
Mooney - 6 - worked hard for little reward.

subs
Pigott - N/A - Played more direct than Mooney. Might have got a 2nd had he been on longer.
