Great to hear loads of positive comments.

The guys on the radio seemed less than enamoured, but those that were there have definitely given a much better spin on things.

Going back to a year ago, we fielded a much stronger team against Brighton, so it's great to see that a year on, a team full of our young talent can achieve the same result.

Onwards!

The commentators were saying that Klass was disappointing, likewise Hendrie and Mcglashan was going down rather easily with a limited end product to his game. In fact, the crossing overall was over hit too many times. I don't know if the people who attended concur with this.

However, it's a dead end game with some youngsters getting their first taste of competitive action. A win and a clean sheet is great for them! So glad to see Elvis getting rave reviews again, really rate him. He looks like he'll be a top player. I just hope that, long-term, it's with us.
It felt that mcglashen over hit everything (by a long way) . I wanted hendrie to do well but I thought he was poor, beaten far too easily, far too often. In the first half he hit a cross field pass 20 yards behind the intended player which went out for a throw ( these things happen) but the way he then put his head in his hands looked ( to me) like a player massively lacking in confidence. I may be too critical ( we were playing the U23"s and I expect to win) as I think I most of the scores so far are too high. Outside of Elvis and JW there was no one showing a reason why they should replace someone on Saturday.

Some encouraging stuff.

Let's hope it translates into some pitch time in first team games.

It doesn't have to be starting, just using some of the youngsters off the bench would be a start.

An interesting if not spectacular evening.

OXLEY 9.0 ....comfortable evening but he made 2 world class saves + another brave one. Good kicking + organising.
ELVIS 8.5....... Excellent energy + enthusiasm. Got away with a couple of errors but brilliant attacking flair
WHITE 8.0.......Apart from a bobbled back pass was superb as usual , deserves to start on saturday at CB or LB
KYPRIANO 8.5...Calm , composed, intelligent , he has really surprised me how he has grown into this position.
HENDRIE 6.5 ...Needs confidence, just doesnt look happy . Theres a great player in there but somethings wrong
McGLASHAN 7.5... Typical Jermaine - Awesomely fantastic one moment , poor the next. The perfect super sub IMHO
KLASS 4.5.....I saw him preseason and bigged him up to my mates, but last night he looked sluggish + v disappointing
YEARWOOD 7.0... Always trying to be positive consquently makes errors but at 17 this lad has a big future. His time will come. Can be as good as Chelsea's Konte if he keeps applying himself and progressing.
BRIDGE 8.5... Skills of Lallana, great energy + positve attacking flair. Deserves to get minutes off bench in league games.
ROBINSON 7.5 .. Frustrating , as he is a great player, but rarely produces enough for me. Nice tap in.
FORTUNE 8.0....Inspirational player but didnt shine too much last night, usual good work ethic

Special mention for BA ... always looks so sharp , lively , good strength for a skinny lad .... A very useful sub. Hope he is learning English as i'd love to see him come off bench alongside Ranger to cause mayhem.

If Ba came through the French education system, he's probably better at English than many of the fans.

Shame Timlin didn't get a go at left back, be interesting to see if he's any good there. :winking::net:

About 2 mins after Ba came on, he made a tremendous run, coming from in front of the Readings CB's, he bent his run so neither could track him and all he needed was a decent ball into the space he was running into. Unfortunately it didn't come. The lad has something about him and I'd like to see him come on against a tiring defence and get some decent balls played into his runs

i wonder how the young Reading right back is feeling this morning after the torrent of abuse and chanting he got 1st half last night. On nights when the crowd is so low everyone can hear anything anyone shouts so hopefully the lad hasnt chucked his boots away and jumped off a tall building.

I'm all for a bit of great banter but that was a wee bit cruel last night.

:nope::nope::nope:

I'd like to know a bit more about Ted Smith's injury as I felt he was one who should have definitely started last night in the normal course of events.

Kay - I was speaking with Ted on Saturday for a while. He has a bruised bone in his shoulder, and was in London seeing a specialist last week, has another scan soon, but going to be out for a little while longer (cant remember how many weeks he said)

It was really woeful. No idea why they specifically targeted Holmes but the lads that carried out that torrent of abuse I'd be embarrassed to call Southend fans

At least we've turned a corner now and aren't abusing our own players like it.

Well done the ref for playing the advantage when the linesman flagged for a foul that led to the cross for our goal:smile:

One thing that you can be sure of following last night's win, is, that if we do go on to reach the final of this competition (whatever you may think of it) there will be 20,000 SUFC supporters at Wembley screaming I'm Southend 'til I die, but where they last night?
Include me in the 1108

I'd be pretty confident that there wouldn't be 20,000 SUFC 'fans' at that game.

Don't include me in the 1,108 and don't include me in the magical 20,000.

Obviously this fixture was less important than League games and therefore not top priority, but it was good to see we have over 1,000 ardent supporters. We saw an interesting, quite entertaining game with all the youngsters showing why they are worth persevering with but also, with the exception of Kyp,why they are not yet ready for regular first team football.Of the "seniors",Oxley was excellent-again and Fortune' is still a class above, but the performance of Robinson and McGlashan highlighted their limitations.

Yep you are right it would be more than 20,000.

Strange thing is if we got to the Checkatrade final and the League 1 play off final this season, we would probably have more fans at the Checkatrade than the play off final.
