Official Match Thread Southend v Portsmouth (EFL Trophy)

Granted. That is something he’ll need to work on but at the same time when his decision making improves he’ll realise he’s not a ball player and simplify his game a little.

At the moment I feel he wants or thinks he can be better than he is. He’s too confident and it’s leading to regular mistakes which get ruthlessly punished.

The learning process for him will be to realise he cannot take risks in his position and neat tidy and safe will always make him a better defender.
Exactly!
So what in the wide, wide world of sports has MM told him?
That he can play comfortably out from the back?
If the manager is earning his corn Taylor's getting your advice - and not heeding it.

Possibly. Which would be worrying. But there’s also the exuberance of youth where you think you’re invincible and it takes some harsh lessons to actually learn your lesson......

Children up against men, business as usual. Worst feeling is some of our past sides put out in this competition would smash our first team.

Yes and unfortunately whereas in years gone by these lessons would gradually be learned in some anonymous reserve game with no media exposure, we no longer have that luxury with youngsters thrust into the first team way before their time.
I know it is for obvious reasons but with the exception of poor Lewis Gard tonight, all of the other injuries are players with the experience you need at times like this, McCormack, Akinola, Demetriou, White, Lennon and to a lesser degree Green.
However I am still wary about putting it all down to bad luck.

I have to agree on this point ,just too many injuries occurring past 2 seasons and now again this season .dont know what it is thats causing it ,whether its footwear or the training regime or lack of it ,I dont believe we had so many in the time Sol was manager and he got the players super fit in his time here Are the players being put out on the field of play when not fit enough (when not fit enough ) i think theres going to be a few comments made about that statement .
