SPOTY?

If tennis isn't a sport, what is it then? A fruit? A candle? A collection of short stories?

Ha! A poor football player moans about two 90 games every four or five days but tennis players (at a Slam) can play for 3 hours + every other day. To call tennis "not a sport" is utter bolleaux - it's possibly the best and most perfect sport. It's the only sport (maybe bar other racquet sports) where you can be totally out of it and still come back and win.

Now that's a perfect sport.

Its really not.

Also Arsenal were 4-0 down a couple of weeks ago and still won.

It's called Sports Personality as that's more concise than 'Sportsman or Sportswoman of the Year' and less stupid than 'Sportsperson of the Year'. It's for sporting achivement not personality.

Though I'm not surprised that Murray reins in his personality in after his throwaway 'anyone but England' comment. Scotsman in disliking England shocker! Was it really that much to make such a fuss over?

And many who have had a Charisma Bypass Operation have won SPOTY in the past - Steve Davis, Michael Owen, Ryan Giggs, Nigel Mansell (twice), Zara Philiips and her mum - to name just a few.

Steve Davis, despite his Spitting Image persona, is actually quite interesting. He's got quite a wry sense of humour and although he plays up to the "interesting" caricature I reckon he'd be good value down the boozer. Bit harsh to therefore tar him with the same brush as Owen, Giggs, Mansell, Zara and Princess Anne.
