Squad for next Season

To be honest, I would think we need to look for a bit more than that.

That's not horrible at all, there are loads of City fans that say similar. I've watched him about 10 times in the reserves over the past 2 seasons too and he has scored more goals than games he has played in. He usually gets 10 minutes off the bench in the Prem, to play with Vassell who is too similar a player for him to play with.

He is extremely talented and a great goalscorer. Whoever gets him on loan next year are going to get a real coup in my opinion. If you can hold on to Eastwood in the summer then I reckon those two will be one of the best pairings in the division.

It really is too early to speculate as we do not know for certain what division we will be playing in.

But there will be natural wastage - Edwards is already out the door and like as not Griemink. The Goat is retiring as we know. I think Pettefer will be offered a new deal, but i think he will look for first team football. There is also a doubt over Prior & Jay Smith. So there are 6 players that may or won't be around come kick off in August.

If we do go up i think we will need to operate with a larger squad than this season, therefore around 22/23 players. So totally agree with Trust Treasurers Bloke's assessment that we will need 6-8 bodies in.

In that case how about we have Vassell and you persist with BWP

???

How much have the club got to spend in the summer and are there any particular players that are leaving or you want to go that will bring some cash in?

We won't get rid of our best players, we would let go at 6 players who is not cut out for Championship, retired & cannot get into the first team. We would be looking at buying best player from League One & Two, signing experince Championship standard players on a free & loans from Premier$hite.

Players we want to go that would bring cash in

Sorry.... Couldn't resist....

I can't remember the last time we sold someone and made money, so take that as NIL...

i doubt whether we would spend much in the summer either. To be honest we currently seem to be the nice place by the sea to go and get your confidence back with that nice Mr Tilson after your last manager was nasty to you (Goat, Gutts, Sodje, Bradbury)

Surely there must be! You are currently sitting pretty at the top of the league with a winning squad that will probably contain players that some of you don't like (or who may not be good enough next season, assuming promotion) and who are coveted by teams lower down League 1.

If you don't have money to spend then a couple of frees and loans are the order of the day. Someone mentioned Chris Powell. That's the sort of player that will really kick Southend on next season.

Being honest here though, I think you may struggle to keep hold of Eastwood. A few Prem and top Championship clubs must be sniffing around - DJ Campbell-esque. Surely that's a worry?

We would get a decent fee though, which would just about appease things. He's young, very talented, but if we go up, a Shrimper for at least another year.

Plus, he's far better than DJ Campbell.

Like I said, I hope he does stay.

What sort of fee do you think you would get? £1.5m? And if Freddy did go and you got that sort sort of money, where would you find a replacement?

God knows on both counts.

I honestly think he'll stay for a little while UNLESS a club like Charlton (with whom he's already spent a month with when he was at Grays) come in for him, ie quite local and Prem. He doesn't want to move his family, that's clear.

As for the fee though, if Jon Stead is worth £1.5m then Freddy is worth more!

If Freddy did go, I reckon it would probably be for a fee in the region of £800k to £1m... I'd like more of course (and I dont think he'll go next season).

If that were to be the case, we'd probably replace him with someone completely unexpected. We always speculate on people who are available and Tilly brings in someone totally unexpected, usually for nothing, everyone moans at how rubbish a signing it appears to be and thenhey presto that signing turns into the stuff of legend!

Has there ever been a manager who has performed better for Southend in the transfer market? I doubt it... the only ones likely to be able to stake a claim are Webby (loads of quality signings in his first stint and Darryl in his last) and oddly enough the Murph who brought in Collymore.

Werent you saying the Goat should be put out to pasture recently Wiggy?

Hardly makes you a good judge of players, unless its short irish goalkeepers of course

If we gone up to Championship & Freddy keep scoring at least 15 goals or more before Christmas, I reckon a offer of 3 million will tempt the Club. If Ashton cost 3.5 million, why not Freddy?

If Eastwood were to be sold this summer, would realisically fetch £750k to £1m - however a good season in the Championship (fingers crossed and touching wood!!) would see his value treble at least I would think.

We tend to offer fairly short contracts, I honestly think that the only ones to leave close season will be those whose cotracts are up and Tilly does not wish to renew, hence the comment about getting money....
In all honesty there are very few players (if any) in the current squad who are not liked (Bart being the possible exception and that is hardly unanimous~)
