Question Stadium update please!

No one really knows what is going on because Mr. Martin does not tell us (as the fans) anything. All I can tell you is that he is currently gathering occupants for the proposed retail park, and he plans to build all 4 sides of the new stadium (not 3). The problem at the moment (it would seem) which is holding up proceedings is the whole redevelopment of Roots Hall now Lidl have bought prospects and thrown a spanner in the works. If Lidl decide to build a new store there (which they are entitled to do so, subject to planning approval), then the whole redevelopment plans would have to be redrawn and a new planning application submitted, and this will add even more time on to the project. There was a bit of positive news behind the scenes around a couple of months ago, but now Ron has caused some tension with Southend Council as a consequence of the retail park (in particular one of the proposed anchor stores) and another issue in which the council could/would not help him. The whole thing is very complicated and I cannot see where it will end (or start). One thing you can't deny is that Ron is doing everything he can to sort it out and drive the stadium plans forward, but even he will have his limitations.

Is started last season and is due for completion any time soon . That's according to Ronalds last update.

The last I heard it is due to start in the spring - however we are yet to establish what spring that will be. My money is on spring 2050

Whats interesting from that is if we are no longer looking at 3 sides then Sainsbury must certainly have left the picture as that was only done to keep them on board.

If he does manage to ever get it off the ground then it could mean that Sainsbury pulling out did us a massive favour and saved us from a 3 stand monstrosity, if it ever happens.

I remember when the plan for a new stadium was first mentioned by Vic J, Scunthorpe hadn't yet moved into their 'new' ground at Glanford Park. Now they're making noises about having another new stadium built & we still havent got our first new one!

Someone made a major "oops!" at Glanford. The stadium was built around pitch dimensions in yards when it was meant to be metres! That's why the goals are right on the perimeter.

Here's details of the new new stadium...

"Future Ground Developments
The Club have moved a big step closer to making their proposed new stadium a reality, with the news that that they have now formally sought planning permission to build a new 12,000 capacity ground. It had been previously announced that they had signed contracts with the Lucent Group, to build the new stadium on land owned by the Group as part of a wider Lincolnshire Lakes residential development. It is believed that the new stadium will cost in the region of £18m to build. The site of the new stadium is just a couple of miles away from Glanford Park, further along the M181 (towards the M180). If planning permission is swiftly granted, then Scunthorpe could be playing at their new home sometime during the 2015/16 season."

I thought we were only looking at 3 sides because Ron had persuaded Sainsbury to pay for the Stadium but they woiuld not stump up for the bit which would make us additional "non football" revenue, ie Hotel etc main stand.

If we are looking at 4 sides now it does not necessarily mean that Sainsbury have pulled out (although I personally believe they have), but it does mean that RM now has the funds to at least build the 4th side, if not build all 4 sides and not rely on Sainsbury to pay.

That was my understanding as well. I always 'assumed' that Salisbury had agreed to pay us X million and that as we had already taken funds from them then the amount was no longer enough to fully pay for the entire stadium and whatever else Ron was going to do with the money - hence the lower amount equated to three sides. However as i said, this is my understanding/assumption- certainly not fact

With the way retail has been in recent times, I just cannot see the need for it, or indeed the parties to fill the units.

Ron would have to allow one of the big boys to take the A1 unit at the top, for free, in the hope it would attract others I reckon.

My understanding was that was all they were going to pay for, not sure the reason why matters, the point still stands.

Id also question that last statement, theres nothing to say Ron has funds to build anything just yet.

When Lakeside started I know for a fact House of Fraser and M@S were paid somewhere in the region of 3 mill each to take prime units and a subsidised rent for years. I still think the first part of what was the shopping area will be where the Dome will go.

The training area was down by the back ? Not that the dome needs to be in the same place I guess as only used at certain times.

Sainsbury's have pulled out and are soon to be making improvements to their current store. Namely a new kiosk and bureau de change alongside it. Work starts in May
