Sturrock: Misses are killing us

Like Harris' header from 3 yards Saturday that the keeper saved, the spectacular diving save to tip Halls effort over the bar or the plunge to stop Ferdinands header?

Yea.... see what you mean! :winking:

Wow we made the might Burton have to use their keeper twice in an hour and a half.

Sturrock is right we need to put our chances away, but he is missing the point in that against a team as ordinary as they were we should be creating enough chances to be able to afford to miss a couple.

Dont get me wrong - I agree and it doesnt gloss over a woeful performance - but its not as if we are not getting clear cut chances to score.

I think PS was right Saturday when he said if we had scored one of those, we would probably gone onto win - but the chances Harris, Dicko and Hall are getting are not being converted.

As it stands, they have no competition either.

Much as it pains me to say, until we get another striker fit, we should persist with Mohsni upfront INSTEAD of Dicko or Harris. Whoever is left out you would hope would be raring to go when coming on - at the moment, Harris and Dicko know they have no competition and we also have no plan B.

Also, its easy to look down on Burton, but Bolder, Richards and Zola are very good for this level and they played well as a team and did a job on us.

We have no divine right to beat anyone in this division and have to work a hell of a lot harder than we did Saturday and not expect to beat anyone. Hopefully that will get through to the players after Saturday.

Sturrock has a point, but alot of the chances we have had seem to be half chance headers where defenders can put strikers of enough to survive or where the keeper has all angles covered. So far this season I only recall us having one, one on one with the keeper situation and I believe that was Sawyers chance V Accrington which he made all by himself basically.

Anyone else remember any chances where one of our players has been played through on goal? This is because of a complete lack of pace, creativity and movement in Sturrocks team selections/formations of late. Then theres obviously the hoofing situation which is covered by another thread....

Last time I remember one of our strikers one on one was Asante last season when he scored against Stockport. Worth giving him a go ahead of Dickinson?

Who would you drop for Moshni to play up front? And, should Moshni be selected, then what message does send to Dicko/Harris as well as Crawford and Asante?

Also, PS has said himself that he's got to fight with peoples mentality so what would the team you're suggesting do to a fragile team mentality?

I'm still of the opinion that the flat showings in the last two games is more to do with self belief, mentality, state of mind within the players than anything else. The quality, on paper is still there, so it's up to Luggy to sort out whatever may or may not have gone on and get the best out of the players at his disposal. In my mind, dropping either Harris or Dicko for a defender isn't the answer to our problems.

Long term no, short term whilst we have 2 fit strikers it might be worth a go to give them a break or a different option.

What message does it send them when we bring on a center half with a couple of minutes to go instead of Crawford when we were losing at the weekend.

He could have still played three at the back, pushed Moshni forward and brought on Crawford for a midfielder as we were missing them out anyway.
