Supporting SUFC
At the recent MTBD the Trust conducted a supporter's mini survey as we are keen to get feedback from the Club's fan base so we can work to improve the way we do things. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who took the time to speak to us.

Supporters told us that there were a number of areas where it was felt we could do things differently and better. The key areas highlighted for focus related to how we communicate and update supporters concerning Club & Trust activities, together with the liaison role we undertake with Southend United. We were also told that our Committee members needed to be more accessible and visible.

In order to be able to build on the feedback from the survey the Trust will be holding a Supporters Forum on Monday 19th September 2011 at 7.30pm in the Shrimpers Bar, Roots Hall. The invitation is open to everyone, as we are keen to hear from the full spectrum of the Southend United fan base. So you don't have to be a Trust member to attend.

The evening will also include a Q&A session with Ricky Duncan, Head of Youth, when supporters will get the opportunity to quiz Ricky and find out more about Southend United's Youth Team structure, including the Trust's involvement as a key sponsor.

We are looking for constructive feedback from all supporters as to how you feel the Trust is doing. We want to know what is currently working for you and what we need to change.

We are in addition keen to strengthen our working relationships with other Southend United supporter groups.

As we all know Southend United remains in a precarious financial state and arguably the lack of information from the Club on this subject has led to there being mistrust of the Club on the part of a large number of supporters. It is perhaps fair to say that this situation has manifested itself in relationships between some supporters and the Shrimpers Trust.

The Trust wants to work to address this and so would particularly encourage those fans who may have become disenchanted with the Trust and/or other supporter groups to engage with the Supporters Forum initiative. The Trust is genuinely seeking to create positive links with all supporters, in order that we are best placed to represent you and that we are together able to meet any challenges that arise going forward.

The Trust acknowledges that it does not have all the answers and understands that there will never be total agreement on all SUFC matters between supporters. However it is clear that we do all have one common objective – i.e. to help Southend United achieve success! So at this time when Paul Sturrock would seem to have shaped a useful squad who are working together to gain promotion to League 1, it surely makes sense that as supporters we also work together to the same aim.

We very much look forward to seeing as many supporters as possible on 19th September. This is your chance to have your say and to play a key part in how we shape the Trust going forward. We really do need your feedback and involvement, so if you can, please take the time to come along.

If you are however not able to attend on the night, but have a particular item that you wish to raise, it would be helpful if you could ask another supporter to raise this matter on your behalf.

51 views and only one reply - guess no one is that interested!
It's a BH weekend James, let's wait for the keyboard warriors to get back to their work desks!!!:winking:
FWIW, I think KS's idea of pinning it in the main forum is a good one, might attract a few more people along.

*bump*

It's tomorrow night guys......it would be helpful if there was an indication from people intending to go along, so far only Wino has replied. Don't want to be putting out loads of chairs if they aren't going to be used!

I will be attending after receiving a personal invite from your big boss who has been advised of my attendance.

I know the owners were invited by name Ken, and I also know that you yourself usually do come along to this kind of thing. It's the rest of the Zone members I was asking really.

I am going along, it will be interesting and good on The Trust for at least trying to address their issues.

I've brought things up before both here and verbally and they have been dismissed. For example: Lack of transparency, The Trust vs SZ mentality, The poor expensive coach service, What exactly all Committee members bring to the table apart from attending meetings at The Harry!

If this going to be a proper debate then this is a useful idea. If however this turns into an argument then we may as well not bother.

I will do my best to be there.

Steve it will be good to have you there

Also if anybody else wishes to attend please do and also please do be afraid to ask questions no matter how damning as we can only learn from things and change things if you tell us! - most of the committee should be there so please do pop down!

Did Anybody from here go ?

Verdicts ?

A very poor turnout of about 15 people not counting the committee..A shame really. The Trust were open to any suggestions as to how they could get all the fans to act as one body in future. I think overall they want to make changes and going forward perhaps bring more youth on to the committee. There seems to be a general apathy towards the club from people at the moment but if we can stay near the top of the table and achieve some success this season hopefully that will change.

I could not stay for the Ricky Duncan part so cannot comment on that.

The Ricky Duncan part was as enjoyable as ever. He also echoed the thoughts that it was disapointing how few fans got involved, particularly with the youth setup, and he was as keen as anyone to share thoughts on how to get the fanbase involved. One particular phrase he used a few times that struck a chord was 'it's your club' - it can be as good as you want it to be. The apathy that there is towards the club needs to end soon or we will have nothing left to support. It's not about being pro or anti Ron - its about supporting the club. We have a decent fanbase but unless we pull together then its pointless.

The Trust represent approx 1000 fans yet only a dozen or so turned up last night - is that really acceptable? and for those that didn't go was it just you couldn't make it or are you really not bothered? If its the latter then we have a problem.

If you take out the usual suspects of Ken,Wino,Apes,B&S myself and a couple of others that usually attend any club meeting it was very sad that so few thought the evening was not worth attending...That is indeed a worry.

There were actually 13 non committee members at the Forum last night, all but one of whom was a Trust member (and I believe may have been persuaded to join!). I'd like to think that people went away relatively informed about some of the problems, some of the changes and some of the background that's gone on. Certainly I don't think many knew about the Supporters' Federation side of things, and I hope that has helped. Potentially the addition of a new, younger committee member too to add to the broad cross section of fans represented on the committee.

It was a shame that Cricko, mcnasty and Ldnfatso couldn't stay for Ricky's bit because, as ever, he was great value. He's so eloquent and so passionate about youth football. I agree with James about Ricky's comments about it being our club, it really is time that more people felt like that about it rather than continuing to be anti anything other than going to matches (and not even that in some cases!).

Such a shame more couldn't (or couldn't be bothered to) attend. And interesting to note that out of that membership only about 20 people bothered to vote on the POTM....how difficult is it to log on to the members' page and cast a vote?

I had no idea that a monthly vote was held on-line, Kay. There's clearly more that needs to be done by way of communication so that we all know what's going on.

Matt

A real shame. But it sums up the apathy the fans have towards the club and anything to do with it at the moment.

The club need to do something about this and sharpish.
