The link didn't work for me, dunno how everyone else is finding it.
 
However you do the original maths, the numbers will always add up to 9. The symbol is the same one as 9 everytime, even if it changes symbols.
 
Given any two digit number, add the two digits and subtract from the original number.

Consider the following....

10 - 1 = 9
11 - 2 = 9
12 - 3 = 9
.....
20 - 2 = 18
21 - 3 = 18
22 - 4 = 18
.....
30 - 3 = 27
31 - 4 = 27
32 - 5 = 27

No matter what two digit number you choose, when you apply the given formula and you will end up with a multiple of nine.

If you look at the table of symbols all the multiples of nine have the same symbol!

When you repeat the test only the symbols corresponding to a multiple of nine change, giving the illusion that the program is reading your mind.
