Zone Update Tonight's meeting with Ron Martin

I HAVE LISTENED BACK TO THE RECORDING SEVERAL TIMES NOW!

Ron actually showed some footballing interest last night!

He didn't only talk rubbish about nothing!

He didn't have a go at Vernon or any of out current players!

He did say that Revell didn't deliver goals and he was brought here to do that! He was on 1800 a week and that's why he has gone!

He did say that he likes Johnny herd, and his thrown ins are very effective.

He did say Francis was probably his favorite player.

He said he was prepared to pay big bucks for Leon Clarke, but he was just after the cheque book too much!

They tried to sign a center back who didn't turn up to the meeting. maybe Dervite?

Tilly really wanted Theo Robinson, who kept on stalling over contracts.

We wanted HRK but he had allready played for 3 clubs in one season and we couldn't sign him permanently for that reason!

It wasn't just 'slagging' people off!

There was a lot of constructive comments, and proof that it is half impossible to sign a player!

There where a lot of comments about having all deals in place!

He said something about 90% of a deal was in place, can't really remember what was sad will have to listen to that bit again!

In my opinion Ron answered the questions really well, controlled the room well, put people in there place when necessary. He has been here for 12 years, and has grown as a fan, aswell as seeing those pound signs in front of his eyes. The ground will be built!

He said that if Southend United Ltd went under Sainsbury's would not be built! Because of the contract! I can't see us going out of business purely for the fact, Ron cares no matter what any of you think, and then our Mate Jamie Oliver won't make his dough!

Lets smash Walsall tonight!

I think that was Izzy Iriekpen.

What exactly has to be completed by the end of May?

My understanding is that the end of May is the long stop date. After that date, depending on the wording of the contract SUFC and/or Sainsbury's either have the right or obligation to pull out of the deal.

My worry here is that people are now going to take it the wrong way and think that it will all go down the pan if the deal isn't completed by the specified date. In reality without knowing the ins and outs of the deal this may be an issue, or may mean absolutely nothing. SUFC certainly won't pull out. If Sainsbury's have the right to pull out, it doesn't mean they will, and my guess is they won't because a) they've invested too much and b) they really want the Roots Hall site. In which case the date doesn't really mean anything and the whole saga could continue on longer.

Was there any mention of when we will see the re-emergence of the Taste the Difference Bluebelles as opposed to do Economy Bluebelles we have recently been fed?

Interesting that Ron should say that we don't owe anyone any money, other than Sainsbury's and HMRC. I overheard two people infront of me in the West Bank on Saturday. One said to the other something along the lines of, "Nice to know Ron doesn't count the money he owes you when he says SUFC don't owe anyone any money". What that says to me is that Ron is being economical with the truth. Whoever this person is obviously is owed money, but probably by one the myriad of companies involved.

Unless he was a frustrated share holder etc....?? Playing devils advocate.

I know for a fact that the club still owe over £1000 to the local branch of CAMRA for sponsoring the Rochford Beer Festival held last November. There is meant to be a cheque waiting for collection at tonight's match ---- not bad , 4 months after the event. I wonder if the cheque will bounce ?

agree about the unprofessionality re: vernon quotes, and malone, but does it not strike you as more of a fans viewpoint? i mean by that, that its clear that RM doesnt pick the team, he leaves that to tilly which can only be good, I see those questions for Tilson rather then RM, imagine the uproar on here if he said, righto, ill order tilson to drop certain players??

Also I know that were in the brown with regards to players and have borrowed off Col U, but i cant beleive how up in arms some perople are getting about it! The comments arent the bad thing, surely the bad thing is that were relying on colchester to help us out!

I cant help but feel that if we werent in so much trouble on a lot of fronts right now, that RM's anti Col U stance (with regards to business plan) would be being applauded all round, rather then some people saying he needs to make a public apology, whats that all about?!
RM appears to have no sentimentality with regards to players who arent even ours, that are underperforming.
How is that a bad thing?
as rightly pointed out the only way for a footballer to get there point across is to perform well. thats there job
.

Got to say, what a great post.

I think everyone was pretty peed off when we got the loan players in and of all clubs Colchester. It's never good for pride when you have to borrow and then pay the wages of a player from your rivals scrapheap. It would be easier to take if they were tearing the opposition apart, however that isn't the case for all. I think it's actually pretty embarrassing - and sure as night follows day, we would be taking the mick out of them if the situation was to be reversed.

If any of the players that were supposedly "slagged off" from last night have got something to say about it, they can say it on the pitch. It's their job afterall.

Lets say you've got a worker who is underperforming yet costing a company a small fortune in wages, would it be unreasonable for the chairman of the company to slag them off to it's shareholders and customers - the ones who, afterall, have the biggest interest in the company?! I doubt it. Especially when it's the opinion of most of the customers and shareholders anyway!

Perhaps Ron shouldn't have said this, but at least he showed a bit of passion in that respect.
