If this is the case then surely this will end up before an employment tribunal.

Pretty sure that any contract (assume that he was on one?) will have a disciplinary process and unless we have followed it, or unless an 'act of god' can be determined to be gross misconduct, then any employment lawyer will happily take such a case on.

Without full knowledge of the facts then this sounds like terrible treatment of an employee, though I will reserve personal judgement until (if) the full facts become public.

Exactly. Who is to know whether it's the final step in an ongoing process or otherwise? It could of course be a national scandal (in which case we should probably all sharpen the pitchforks and brush up on flaming torch etiquette now), or it could be that someone didn't take appropriate measures/do their job properly in advance of the widely forecastable 'act of god'?

Since we don't know, there's no place for a witch-hunt.

Presumably shareholders of the club will have a right to ask questions about the processes and whether they were followed.

Hope we get a new groundsman from a local non-league club where there is so much untapped mowing and lining talent, rather than some journeyman groundsman from the Championship or League One.

Yes, we should be encouraging grassroots development.

Still think the seed was sown (pun intended) when he stood his ground over the pre-season friendly v West Ham. He insisted that the game be switched as the pitch wasn't ready. He was proved correct, as I think the pitch has looked/played magnificently this season. Was his card marked cos Ron lost revenue as a result (?). Obviously we do not know the full story, but I'd bet a lot of money that Mr Hare has made less mistakes* that Ron over the last 10-15 years.

* I deem false promises a mistake.

Surely the decision would be made by the stadium manager? I doubt Ron Martin deals with the day to day hiring and firing of every employee.

After the last CEO walked out to go to Millwall the dynamic duo of Mr Martin and Geoff King have been ruining the show.

Don't know about the hiring and firing of every employee but certainly this one.

Very few employees have been sacked according to the "amended" statement.

Was just being discussed on Talk Sport on the Jim White show, they (jokingly, I think..) want to start a pettition to get the groundsman his job back. We do get some great publicity don't we..

Surely any self respecting, environmentally aware modern witch hunter would use a suitable solar or LED option for their lantern.

Absolute PR disaster, this. They're now claiming the Echo misreported the statement by omitting the word 'few', and Chris Phillips has tweeted saying this is not the case.

Oh Ken you rascal.

What is certainly not unusual unfortunately is that after 12 pages I still can't see anything that says the dismissal was justified or not. The club I would imagine could only share this information if the employee agreed (so they are an easy target and we love those on here).

In the absence of any facts they get made up and hence the club is at fault. I don't like to see anyone lose their job- however weren't a significant number on here earlier in the season desperately trying to get the manager sacked?

Where I am frustrated in particular is that the club then appear to have made an unfortunate omission in their statement. Corrected the statement is reasonable where previously it is not. The club does it appears to me have a very good record when it comes to not sacking employees and yes even mangers- how many managers has the club sacked under RM- one?? In how many years??

Hopefully a new signing will bring positive news (although probably only half the number of pages of comment)

With the disgusting decision that Mr Martin has decided to make and the usual poor publicity that he has created for the club, I was wondering whether we as fans should hold some sort of small protest at our next home game. I'm all for a 100% positive atmosphere at home games but with no real reason released for Ken's sacking, it seems like after his 27 years of service, we should show our gratitude and support for the man. Am sure the players wouldn't be adversely affected by this, in fact I think it would show our club in a good light despite Martin's complete usual lack of class. Not sure what this protest would be, only something small which wouldn't affect things on the pitch but seems like we should try and do something for one of our own. Have had some great moments over the years at the Hall and IMO the pitch has always been one of the best surfaces in the lower divisions so how Ken was sacked for 'not doing his job properly' is beyond me.

Why would we protest about this sacking when we have no idea whether it was justified or not? It could be a perfectly sensible decision, and it would be very unprofessional of the club to publicly state their reasons for sacking a member of staff just to appease a few fans.

I hope he sues that club and loses. That way we'll all know the club did the right thing.

No-one on here knows the full story. It may be that the club have acted in haste, and it wasn't all his fault, but it's also likely that he is to blame. It may also be the end of a long line of issues. We simply don't know, and comments like that are just unnecessary.

Yeah not unnecessary. It's a forum, for different views.

One postponement in four years is not a reason to sack someone and even if it was a mistake it is still super harsh. No one knows the facts correct but the club isn't exactly know for it's great decisions.

Sod that lets go the whole Hog and 'do' a "George Davis is innocent" inspired protest. Why not dig up the pitch like they did back in 1975 at Headingley Cricket Ground?

Oh the irony:tease:.

The statment from the Echo was

"“People generally lose their position as a result of not doing their job. "The necessary decision surrounding Mr Hare was a disappointment and of course not taken lightly.
"People have been dismissed at this football club over the past 20 years and that even extends to managers.”

Chris has said this.

"Just for clarification, the statement I received from the club does not include the word few. I have still have it on my phone too."

"Statement I received did not have the word few in it. I still have the statement on my phone."

Poor statement from the club if Chris is telling the truth.

.

Funny old case, The Davis. It was still rattling around only a couple of years back.

Roy Jenkins released him in 1976 and then he was convicted of another two armed robberies a year or two later!
